Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Nugget my silkie crowed today!! He did it twice, he will be 15 weeks tomorrow. I got so excited, & my husband is sitting there looking at me like I'm nuts but oh well. I can't wait till Pearl starts laying.

Wow, a lot of roosters! So far I have been lucky to not get any yet.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many I want to keep. This is my first time hatching with an incubator so Lots of boys. I'm okay with putting some of them in the freezer but I LOVE all the colors so its going to be REALLY hard to choose whose staying. Maybe the BO and NH being boys is a good thing, then I can hatch purebred chicks. I just need more girls for my egg business.

What a cute picture. They're so tiny compared to the big ones. I am on chicken sites too much today, the count down for my next chicks is getting so close now, less then two weeks. Rather then bother my family even more, I am on the web!

I would do the same. I look like nuts all the time to my family.

Got my first FBCM egg this morning, she was is only 22 weeks old
How much did it weigh?. Such a cute little egg and the color is beautiful!

Greetings, I've been lurking following this thread for a long time because I've considered using Meyer for some EE chicks someday, people who have gotten their EEs from Meyer seem to get a lot of nice large blue eggs from them.

I've always wanted Marans also, but figured I'd go the breeder route for them. Kalalyn21, did your Marans come from Meyer? If so, did you get the mixed Marans deal from them or just one type? I'm impressed with the egg color you have there.

I've heard good things about Meyer as far as hatcheries go. I'm still confused about the whole difference between going the breeder route vs hatchery, though. I understand breeders are trying to "improve" birds to the SOP, but do they do that often just for looks/show at the expense of vigor and egg production? I'd rather have some healthy, long-lived Marans that lay a lot of medium dark eggs , than some that just lay a few really dark eggs. Even the med dark are much darker than most brown eggs. The egg on the left in your pic above is gorgeous. I'm not interested in showing, just having a productive and healthy laying flock that will be good foragers.

Thanks to all of you for posting pics of all of your Meyer birds, it is very helpful, I esp. love seeing them as adults and seeing how their eggs are coming along as they start to lay. Very useful info for choosing a source for birds.

This egg did not come from a Meyers Maran but a local breeder. I have 4 FBCM chicks now that I just purchased from Meyer and only 2 have feathered feet. Pretty disappointed there. Guess that's what happens when you get hatchery stock. Won't do that again. I paid more for there chicks than I did when I bought from a local breeder. Only reason I bought these lil chicks from them is because I wanted them sexed. Had terrible luck with Roos this year.

Ah, oh well, that shoots down that theory then, may be better off going to a good local breeder for Marans. I'll still be interested to see how your Meyer chicks grow out and eventually lay, though.
