Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

See you just needed to complain!

Our BA is huge too. We found out at our show that they aren't supposed to be that heavy. We came in 4th because our BA was too big and 2nd for our BR because she wasn't big enough. lol
All this stuff I never knew about breeds until we entered them in that show. I don't think we'll do show anymore. It was fun and that's what got my husband even interested in chickens, but outdoor chickens don't score well. They get too bleached by the sun and their combs are usually in poorer shape from other chickens or hitting them on stuff. My daughter opted out of 4H this year too since she is doing a horse thing instead. Maybe once we move out to some land we'll do 4H again. We'll see.
Apparently, I did need to complain! One of my Cuckoo Marans is now squatting for me, but the weird thing is, her comb and wattles are still small and pale. The others with the bright red combs and wattles are not squatting. Even the leghorn that laid the egg does not squat for me. The bright red ones and the squatters sure do come closer now and are so chatty. (Seems weird using the word squat so many times in one paragraph!)

I guess Meyers just produces huge BA's! I thought that was unusual from the BA's I have seen pictures of before. She is a pretty bird though, so I am not complaining. That is really interesting all the things you learned from showing birds. I knew material can get bleached from the sun and hair can, but feathers too? Wow, who knew? My daughter would have chosen horses of 4H too , if given the choice.

You know, I have been wondering that too. My dad said the other morning, "You know, if chickens have 9 lives, she's probably used at least 7 of them."

It sounds like your Oreo has had some pretty ruff times in her life too. Poor girls.

Congratulations on the first egg from your young girls! Your girls are so beautiful.

Blackie looks almost exactly like my Lilly.
Funny! and Thank you!

So nice to see Miss Sunni almost back to her old self! Glad she still has a lot of those lives left. So far Oreo has just used two of hers. Chickens can be tough!

Maybe I missed it... where did you get the red skelter? I LOVE it!!! About how many eggs can it hold? That would really stand out on my green tile kitchen island!!

Fantastic news she's recovering so well!! She is soooo lucky to have you

WooHOOOOO for a new egg layer. I bet they all start following in Izzie's footsteps! Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks pretty nice size.

Awwww, she sure is a cutie pie!!

$34.90 plus $6.99 shipping. It was supposed to arrive in the new year, but it came early! I love the red too! One of my favorite colors!

The little white egg was 1.6 ounces which I guess is big for a new layer, my first set of chickens started out laying 1.2 ounce eggs.

How are your chickens doing?

My girls are doing well... it's finally warmed up enough for the snow to melt and it hit 70 here today so I'm sure they are a bit confused but the difference in temp. It seems I get 4 eggs one day and then 6 the next pretty regularly.

LOL, I love when we complain they start laying... they must have little iPads in their coops to read what we say about them :)
That's a good size for a first egg!
I'll put the red skelter in my 'cart' from Amazon and I'll treat myself later :)
Speaking of treats...

Is anyone as weird as me and have a Christmas present for the chickens? I got a mini flock block and a zucchini for their suet feeder for Christmas day!!

Glad to hear that they are doing well. Mine are pretty spoiled already, but that is a neat idea to get them a presents too. I'm sure they will not complain about their gifts!

We've been in the 70's here for awhile too. The past two days has been super wet with all the rain. I think we drop to normal winter weather soon though.

Yes, you must get that red skelter! It is a necessity!

Oh and you're not weird, it's just the rest of the world that is not involved with BYC that is!

My daughter is giving the chickens a stocking but they have to share it with the bunny. She wants to go shopping tomorrow to get them something to fill it. A suet cake is a great idea.

Hey everyone, we got a severe ice storm, and we've been without power for three days now. I have access to the Internet for a few minutes, but we won't have power for another 1-3 days yet.

Sunni is doing great. She is almost completely back to normal. She's upset that she has to go to bed at 5:00pm when it gets dark because we don't have power, but she's okay.
