Meyer Hatchery Shipping Error

Wow... Chickens in Minnisoda... How do you keep them from becoming blocks of chicken ice in their coops? It is COLD there! My husband lived there for a year and has horror stories about the weather.

i lived in ND for 4 years and i have no clue how people have chickens there!! i remember you couldnt be outside with ANY skin exposed for longer than a few minutes in the heart of winter. i always called Jan and Feb "the deep freeze" but winter lasted about 6 months there....at least that's how i felt.
oh, and i grew up in Ohio and we had chickens and i remember some of their feet were frozen solid at times. poor things. i remember bringing those ones in and helping them. but even there it was tough on them.

Well chickens here in MInnesota do quite fine actually, but unless you heat a chicken coop you need a bird that is cold hardy. Also you can put a few more chickens in one coop than you normally would to help it stay warmer with chicken body heat. My coop which is a big corner of my barn stays at least 10 degrees warmer than the outside temp.

I ordered chicks from Meyer also (10) so a few more than you. They have lots of bedding in the package with them so hopefully they will be fine. Mine hatched on Monday and I got them Tuesday. I am a little closer than you but will pray yours are good. They now give them a nutrient supplement before they ship them so that should help.

Awww so cute! What kinds are they?

Hello! I'm new; I'll be interested to see how this turns out with Meyer because I was planning to order from them this spring (versus the chicks from TSC). I live very near their hatchery in Ohio so I'll go pick them up. I hope yours have arrived ok!! I'd be very unhappy too; hopefully they handle it well and offer you compensation.

I just recieved my 3 chicks today from Meyer. I was told they were going to be shipped via Express mail, but when I looked at the package tracking and it said they were being shipped priority. This concerned me and I e-mailed Meyer Hatchery and they said that it was their fault that my chicks were shipped the wrong method. They all arivved alive and peeping. I'm just thankful we are in a warm spell here in Minnesota.
