Meyer Hatchery - Worst Experience Ever

I ordered 10 assorted pullets from Ideal Hatchery, all of them made it despite of the heat. I have not had any losses from that since then and they all are happy with their new homes!

I think it was just a bad year for hatchery orders in general .Heard of so many stories of what went wrong ? I don't personally blame Meyers for missing my health papers , it was just one person that set the ball rolling and I just ended being at the tail end of the roll .I will most likely try again next year and hope that this time everything goes better then this year .I got a full refund and although I would have much rather had the chicks ? that's the way it went this time .I do like there selection and have heard good things about them , as well as some not that good , but it's a personal choice ?

I'm sitting here on the fence.
My 25 chicks arrived from Meyer yesterday morning. The chicks at the one end of the box were cold. All of the chicks were huddles in the corner. I brought them home immediately and put them in the brooder. I was losing a chick every few hours. 4 total as of this message and two more that are lethargic this morning. They all came from the cold side. The chicks that didn't make were smaller than the rest. Runts?
The weather isn't hot here by any means. They only had to travel from Ohio to western New York. Not a very long journey.
I have another 24 hours before i call them. i hope I don't lose any more.
My question is if I have them replace them are they going to charge me the shipping which is astronomical for just a few chicks.
If it's the postal service that is bad, then why don't they get a different shipper? UPS or Fedex seem to be almost the price of USPS.
I'm a little disappointed about this whole experience.

I ordered 16 chicks from Meyer Hatchery last May. They arrived August 3rd. All were huddled on one side of the box, and I was a little surprised that there was no gro gel in with them. All chicks have survived and seem to be happy and healthy. My friend who has about 23 chickens saw them and was surprised at how good they looked considering they were from a hatchery. I did order NPIP certificates and have yet to receive them (they are shipped separately.) Overall, I am very happy with Meyer Hatchery.

That would be nice, but neither Fed Ex or UPS will ship live animals. The hatcheries have actually had to work pretty hard to get the USPS to do it for them. I just received 25 chicks this morning from McMurray and every single one of them is doing very well. It's a far cry from my last order where I ended up losing ten of them. I think they got cold last time. So I think it just depends on a lot of things. Like how hard their journey was and the temperatures they were kept in along with the hardiness of the chicks in the first place. I got hardy breeds this time and I am sure that helped.

I just called to report my losses at Meyer hatchery. I told them that the chicks that I lost were cold when I got them. 6 out of 12 on the cold side have died. They are going to replace them in a week.
I am a great believer of customer service and people that stand behind what they are selling so I will be ordering from them again.

I've ordered from Mcmurray twice and have never had a problem. The first time the chicks came with the mail man directly to the house. This time the post office called me. They arrived alive and well!! I can't imagine having them all be dead. I would totally raise cain.
