Congrats! If you do a search on "Meyer" you should find alot of info. I picked up (didn't have them shipped) 12 buff orp chicks from them in June and they were perfectly healthy and sexed exactly as I ordered - 11 girls and 1 boy. They were very friendly and nice to deal with. It was a very pleasant experience.
I ordered all of mine from Meyer. We did have a problem, but they were very good about fixing it. We ordered 25 chicks that I was to pick up, but someone shipped them by accident. Just my luck, it was the coldest night of the year and we did have fatalities of 15 chicks. ( We ordered in Feb. because of 4-H deadline.) We had to order the difference to be reshipped. I got the second batch with no problems. The shipping charges were removed from both shipments and they took some extra off our bill. I ended up with 43 chicks for about $5 more than what 25 cost! I ordered all hens and 2 roos, ended up with 3 roos. I am planning on getting my next chicks from them. Even with the one problem, I was very happy with how it was handled and quickly taken care of.
We ordered 25 assorted pullets.
They sent 29.
3 turned out to be roosters.
They are all healthy and thriving.
And I live in Florida, so that was a long way to go.
Hope this helps.
We just got 11 straight run bantam chicks from Meyer. Meyer handled things very courteously from their end but the post office took their sweet time getting the chicks to me and the chicks were pretty cold when they arrived. We've lost one.
As is typical with hatchery Araucanas, these are Easter Eggers and not "real" Araucanas.
If I had it to do again, I'd order from a hatchery where I could pick them up or just hatch from fertilized eggs.
P.S. Meyer is about a 7 hour drive from me and the postal service took 41 hours to get them here - and they used a plane!
we got there brown layer assortment 30 chicks with atleast 4 breeds a few died and they shipped out replacemets plus 1 very nice friendly people will order from them agian
I love their care given to me when dealing with them. I have had a couple of questionable things happen. I ordered and picked up 4 white leghorn pullets and 2 of the 4 turned out to be roos. They offered to replace the 2 roos but the age difference between day olds and 8 weeks would make a problem for me. I purchased 12 fertile BO bantam hatching eggs for a broody to sit on and when I went to pick them up the the eggs where white. I thought all buff orp eggs where brown. I questioned the young girl and she didn't have a clue. I would have had to wait 2 hours for someone with more knowledge to return but had a meeting I had to be at and had to leave. Time will tell, they are due to hatch Fri. John
I have had a good experience with Meyer. We got silkie chicks from them end of May, shipped to my local feed store. Then this past Tuesday I went there and picked up 8 Mille Fleur chicks plus they let me purchase extra chicks there that they hadn't sold. We left with 9 extra chicks and have only lost one. Everyone is healthy, alert, and talkative!
