Ugh, one thermometer reads 90F and the other 99F. Found like the oldest thermometer ever to see which thermometer is right. Hope this 'new' one works.

Calibrating a thermometer

http://www.allfoodbusiness.com/calibrating_thermometers.php

If you have a digital one, calibrate a regular thermometer and compare the digital one to it. Most regular thermometers have a +/- 2 degrees variance, which means they can read off as far as 2 degrees high or low - which can be lethal in incubation.

You would not regret buying a Brinsea Spot-Check, they are super accurate and easy to use.

I have Swedish Flower Hens, Cream Legbars, Arkansas Blues, green/olive eggers, and a few bantam Barred Rock, Jubilee and self-blue Orp eggs at 1 1/2 weeks. This waiting is a pain.

I am using AccuTemps, about $11 each. They measure humidity and temperature.

I bought two and put them in the same incubator for a few days. Humidity readings varied by 2% but temps were spot on, I calibrated my digital thermostats then swapped thermometers to be sure. All good.

I found my digital 2 probe cooking thermometer read several degrees higher than true temps. Incubator thermometers were off by as much as 10 degrees. My hatch rate and incubation success is MUCH better with accurate and stable temps.

Seems that the one that came with the bator is off by about 5F. I really like this new style bator, the temps are easy to adjust

Does it have a bigger knob? Or did they use a different thermostat?

well the i put the broody and eggs back in the regular nest box, she went back to it and left the eggs.. so i move them all back under her, she did move 2 of the marked eggs to another nest box.. all the hens are still laying eggs in the same nestbox.

@WalnutHill congrats on the Narragansett

Where did you get them?
