Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well, the day has come again. The owner just sold the 20 acre land next to us again. This time the new proud owners have the money to build a house on it. The deal closes on Sept 30th, and I will have to get all the fencing and cows off it again by that date. But this time I had used temporary fencing, not the permanent fencing, so it will be easy and quick to take it down. But I won't take the fencing and cows out until 3 days before the 30th, for we have no grass in our own pasture for it has been so dry. But I am very thankful that the owner has been letting me use his land for free for the cows. We might have to have our steer November butchered a bit sooner than planned to give more grass for Bella and gang to eat. 3 acre of pasture is not enough to support all of them.

I suppose if someone wanted to be specific a dog of mixed breeds is a mongrel. However, that word always seems a little harsh for what are often exceptional companions and helpmates. Even mutt seems to hold a negative connotation. In this age of designer dogs like labradooles and sheltiepoos mixed parentage is no longer frowned upon. Since the heritage is a mystery and it is unknown what street corners your dog's parents may have hung out on, you need to come up with a breed name that proudly declares that dubious parentage; perhaps you could tell people that its a Curbstone Setter.

Curbstone setter, will have to remember that

love the chicken soup to, how can you have chickens or pets or kids for that matter and not laugh a little each day?

Someone shared this with me on FB and I used it for my plum jam.
thanks for sharing, were do you get chia seed?
Sounds like we had the same plan today...4 loaves zucchini bread for me; 3 dozen Golden Harvest muffins (shredded apples, carrots base..(thx Opa 4 the apples

)).

Yesterday was blanching & freezing corn & salsa making (too bad one of the jars didn't seal, had to have chips, salsa & ice cream for dinner; the ice cream as this batch has a VERY nice bite).

Have a HUGE tub of green beans to tackle next. My crop was a TOTAL bust this year. BUT, neighbor called this morn, they didn't get to the ones they picked last night & were heading out of town for the week. "Do you want them?" Oh yea! The one thing I was out of was frozen GBs...phew....crisis averted...
the Golden Harvest muffins sound delicous! the salsa sounds good too, would make some but my DH wouldn't eat it (it is the wrong brand)
So excited that my coop is mostly done! Just a few more things to do before the chicks move in!
Inside still needs a few things fixed. Got to build the roost bar, do the shingles, and finish the pop door. Can't wait!
LOVE the coop, was wondering how you were coming with it, looks good, don't forget to put poop boards under the roos, makes cleaning so much easier
to bad about the land, I thought the water didn't perk? Oh well maybe God has something better planned for you

Quote: You sure are right about that. But if I want a really good laugh all I need do is look in the mirror. It's either that or cry, and since that won't help I might as well laugh.

Does any one know if we can put a No Pest strip up in our coop, it 10 x10 with 2 windows and a screen door in front, also 2 vents.

I have hung fly paper strips in mine. I haven't used the pest strips that go on the floor though. Think that might be asking for trouble. Of course, there is always going to be that one idiot chicken whose curiosity gets the better of him/her and ends up stuck in the fly paper strip. LOL One of my pullets took a flying leap off the roost to the fly strip, came down with it, and was that fun to get off.
