Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ugh , I just back from the ER. I dislocated my knee cap, talk about painful. My knee was locked in the bent position and luckily my neighbor was home to carry me down the stairs to our truck. Now I can't even carry water out to my coops. Its a good thing I had cleaned the coop this morning. Now I just have to hope there isnt any problems that they couldn't see on the x-rays.

I hope it's ok and you're feeling better soon! :(

I was in er yesterday. My hubby is a wrecker driver and a drunk driver hit his wrecker head on doing 70mph. My hubby was standin beside his truck and when the druck hit his, wrecker hit my hubby throwing him 10ft. He has a concussion and broke elbow and lots of bruise s. But thankfully he is alive. The druck lived but had to be cut out of his truck with jaws of life. He had no license or insurance and was his 2nd offence. He just left bar a mile away. My hubbys wrecker has 70 strobe lights and can be seen from space.
Get this... state cop told my hubby dont be surprised if looser drunk sues wrecker insurance. .. what the h***! Thats just not right what ourcountry give rights too.

I'm glad your DH is going to be alright. Drunk Drivers should not be allowed to sue! :th

I got my "been on BYC for 4 yrs" badge...  :yesss: by golly!  lol!

Congratulations Silly!!!:D

This was on John Tesh FB page a friend had put on hers . Thought I would share. It said Feb 19, when this was captured by satellite, Lakes Huron, Erie and Superior are 100 % ice covered. Lake Michigan is at 60% and Ontario at 20%. Typical peak is @ 50 %. Feb 19 was @ 80.3%
 Go Away Winter!!!!

No kidding. I am simply thinking about the gardens. And the gardens.

I don't recall who was asking about growing potatoes awhile back, but this eve I found a link where the author describes an interesting way of growing taters with newspaper and I like the sound of things. http://www.motherearthnews.com/organic-gardening/lasagna-gardening-zmaz99amztak.aspx
There is also a great tomato waterer described there too, which if the Farmer's Almanac is correct, should come in handy come August 2014, as I believe I saw far below average rainfall forecast then.

I am planning to start my peppers this week inside. :)

whoah......... that was a close call....Glad your DH is going to be ok.... too bad they couldn't sue the driver first.

Roosters crow, sorry about your knee.. this ice has been a pain in the @$$! I was carrying a couple big pans with feed out to the goats/sheep and whoops I knew I was going down and all I could think about was wasting all that feed, so I just set it off to the side as I went down on me bum and back. LOL! Think I only lost a handful of it. PHew! DH's mom actually broke her knee cap the other day. And there hasn't been one person that hasn't made it in or out of our drive way without getting stuck! Once you get in the valley (by the green box) it's solid ice going back up to the house where I'm standing.

Hello again. Long time no see. From last year, we ended up losing all the chickens. *sighs* Being pregnant, I could not handle that and remain here, so I left. In October I had a daughter.

So, there is something about that shed that I converted to a coop. A neighbor suggested that something was not quite right. Everything seemed fine, but... I took her word for it. She has raised ducks for years and after 3 years here, I have learned to trust her instincts. I will be building something new. I am not sure quite yet what... I need to decide soon. Once we have spring thaw, we will be starting the addition to the house (was suppose to happen in the fall but....).

I also wish to move my single quail outdoors and add some quail. I have to admit I am a little concerned with them getting to cold in winter. The single quail will most likely remain friendless. She was not to fond of her other friends and well, One Eyed Jack was not to wise with wanting to be near her, even after she pecked his eye out and they were separated. The minions actually named her "The Evil Quail". She does give us some nice eggs though.

So glad he'll be all right. Tell your insurance company not to pay them. Its BS. That happened to my brother years ago. A woman ran a stop sign in front of him (he was driving a semi) he managed to pull out and avoid her and she then turned into him. As I recall it tipped the semi over but my brother wasn't hurt, it took the jaws to get her out and she was in critical condition. She sued and the company's insurance said it was cheaper (obviously for them) to pay her off than fight it in court. And then they raised the company's insurance because of accidents. The lawyers know the insurance companies will just pay them off so they sue .

Mindy lee can't he counter sue? Stupid mi road laws :( i was (kinda) in a fender bender last week where the other driver was going too fast for conditions and decided that though they had 253 feet in which to slow down for my rear of my car peeking out the end of the drive (looking out from behind the ginormous snow bank) they just swerved (and made a 50 foot swath in the ice bank). Buut according to mi law you can't block any part of a rodeway withput being liable. Or lose eye contact with a road while backing up. So speeding or hitting something you can avoid can be ok somehow. Like i said stuuupid.

Bento minion was it the shed that killed the birds or did you have to let them go?

Mine was different though since there was no vehicle contact. I think his bodily injury from her should be a worse counter sue though. He and you must be on such a rollercoaster of emotions right now. That was too close. :(

At first it was a critter. We put a stop to that. Everything seemed fine for several weeks, then we started finding a chicken dead here and there. No signs of injury. They had seemed healthy. I had called the neighbor over to try and help me trouble shoot since she has raised chickens and in the last 5 years she has been raising ducks. The only thing she came up was she had a bad vibe with the shed. She really did not like it. Odd and definitely not something normal I know, but like I said, I have learned to trust her gut. I ended up giving my last few away since we could not figure out what was going on. An uncle thought maybe something with the dirt floor which we dug out to put in some wire to keep pests out. We put the dirt back on top and laid pine bedding back down. It started after we did that.

I do check up on the chickens. They went to a family member of one on SO's coworkers. They are still doing well in their new home and laying eggs.

Mindylee, I am glad your husband is ok. I hope you can counter sue if it comes down to it.

I agree that Michigan law is very odd. My dad has all sorts of odd insurance stories. He works as a safety engineer for one. 20-25 years ago there was a farmer who was going down the road. Everything was as it was suppose to be. A drunk and his drunk GF on a motorcycle went to pass the farmer. For some odd reason they merged into the tractor and were killed. The family sued the farmer and won. Even though the farmer had done nothing wrong and had everything the way it was suppose to be. He lost the farm that had been in his family for generations.
