Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We had a get together with my family Saturday for my birthday and Easter, which worked out because I had the pleasure of working all day Sunday.. right when we got to the end of the job (already 8 hr day) , something went wrong....... the Power distribution unit wouldn't come back on line.... which resulted in servers in our data center to go down......... EEKS!! Several other people and management got called in... Luckily we got it figured out and the equipment back up and running, all is well. Got a nice gift card from my bosses boss for working over the holiday so that wasn't too bad. But, I'm dragging today....

Stacy.. and Darren, the kid babies are so sweet! I'm getting mine disbudded Wednesday... I put off as long as I could because the two little ones didn't have any bumps yet. I worry about these two getting that hot iron on their tiny heads. Having the vet come out to do it for me instead of just anyone..

Congrats! What an exciting weekend!!!

We had a nicely productive weekend here. Got our new-to-us coop picked up from BIL's house and set on blocks on Saturday, the run fenced in on Sunday, as well as picking up all of the rough-sawed oak from a few years ago that DH is planning on using to side our big coop with. I was hoping to get the new coop thoroughly cleaned out today since it's supposed to be warm, but it doesn't appear that the weather is going to cooperate. Now I just have to figure out when I can go pick up my new roo from Wynette!

Anyone between Traverse City and Midland/Flint area have speckled sussex or swedish flower hen hatching eggs? I "need" some.

Well, what a busy weekend for me!

Thursday- Triplet kids born.

Friday- 6 piglets born.

Saturday- I got engaged and my niece was born! My niece's name is Eden, and she weighed 8lbs 1oz. 21in. Born 4/19/14 Very chubby baby! Some of you may remember that my brother and his wife had lost a baby boy in '12, so we are very happy for them that they have a very healthy baby this time!

My bride-to-be and me.

CONGRATULATIONS on all counts! All wonderful news and a beautiful lil' girl!

Rembr my Clematis last Fall? Well so far it has done nothing. I pruned back abt 1/3 a month or so ago, it just looks dead as a doornail. It is Balfour var. Zero signs of life, yet those nearly dead ones I found on Clearance at Kroger are budding anew. Any suggestions for me? Thank you RaZ, or anyone one else with ideas! :)

I'm not RaZ, but I had a *ahem* small clematis obsession a few years ago.
Balfour is a type 3 clematis, so it flowers on new growth. I chop my mother's type 3 (Polish spirit) down to about a foot and a half every other year, and down to about 3 feet the other years. I have one in my garden (arabella i think) that is JUST starting to have buds swell. Basically, if it's not doing anything yet, give it some more time.....it might not be warm enough yet. Or, the vines may have succumbed to the VERY cold winter and you might need to chop them off to give the crown some room to send up new shoots. None of my other clematis are doing ANYTHING yet, but they are type 2 pruning group (flower on old wood in June/July and may bloom again in the fall) and not very well established yet. Still in the 30s and high 20s here some nights.

Thank you!! This is my favorite plant ever, I sure hope it makes it! I will keep watching it- and cut if needed I guess.

My pumpkins finally sprouted; and I replanted the birdhouse gourd seeds- those have been in the jug at least 2 wks and haven't done a thing. I'm ready for warmer nights!

I thought I for sure killed my arabella last summer because I was REALLY bad about watering it. I was snooping through the garden today though, and saw some purple-y buds pushing up so I guess I need to get that sprinkler post mounted before the heat of summer gets here this year!

Now, if anyone knows any tricks for PEONIES I would love to hear them. I have some from my mother's 30+ year old plants and they haven't bloomed for 3 years now. Going to water the heck out of them this year and see if that does the trick, otherwise I may be done messing with them. They're monopolizing the entire corner of my flower bed and something else can go there if they aren't going to grow.
