Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I too am loving this weather....no snow is awesome!, I'm from England and have only been in Michigan for 12 years, have to say I really am disliking winter though !. Getting my first ever small flock of chooks in May and so looking forward to it

I been here in MI almost 50 yrs.... and the winters never seem to get better! Welcome to byc!

50 yrs? Can't be... You only looked like 25! Seriously!

I can't rembr who posted last week what do do with your littles in case of power outage and luckily I have not had to deal with that. But right now someone is dealing with it, with 2 day old ducklings. (They 're aiming for 90-95'F Brooder Temp) Can any of you offer suggestions to this poster please? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/877701/power-outage-two-day-old-ducklings#post_13336869

When is spring going to appear on my son's baseball game days? Holy cow it was cold and windy! Luckily Clio's field can be seen from my truck! Less wind more sun is all I'm asking.
We had a double header in North Branch last night, it was sooooo cold. Started to rain at the end and I had to go sit in the truck. Felt so bad for the boys out there, my son said took the half hr ride home just to get feeling back in his fingers and toes.

Thanks for all the advice on the straw bales, I wrote them down and figured I would let DH decide tonite. Our gardens is already covered with what we raked out of the runs and coops, theses are still baled and not even open. Maybe i will set by road and see if any wants them 1st.

Lightening (duck) came off her nest to eat last night, but gets upset if I go near her nest. I don't think I will be able to candle her eggs.

Congrats farmerboy, may you have a long and happy marriage

At 4 weeks old, our blond EE chick is mostly white and is getting a peachy color on her head. She has a single row of peas coming in. Fingers crossed. Our little d'uccle's comb continues to grow quicker than I'd like. We'll probably know for sure by the end of next week if Olive is an Oliver. And at that time, if anyone is looking for a porcelain roo, let me know. ;)

Can you get a close picture of your porcelain's comb? ...I'm thinking maybe you have an Oliver then if compared to it's hatch mate that I have. There is not much comb coming in at all on my little porcelain.

Today, 4 weeks:

The only thing I can think of right now is heating water on a grill/propane burner and bottling it in jugs for the babies to snuggle against.

Happy After Easter! I took a small vacation from this site and I'm back to see 682 unread posts. I just hope everyone is doing well. I've been putting together a new facebook page...behold,

www.facebook.com/eggsfortheclem

Yes, we're organizing to form a support group of Mount Clemens residents who want the ordinance changed. While I do believe that MRTF should protect us all, I also believe that changing ordinances to allow for chickens (to start) will strengthen our voices when we request our legal protections under RTF. So wish us luck, and pardon the shameless asking, but please like or friend us to show support and keep posted, ok? Thank you all!

I picked up a couple EE's from Jackie this week. One is a possible roo and I only wanted pullets. I am in Paw Paw and drive to Cassopolis once a week if you are interested in him.
Yes I'd be interested in him. How old is he and do you have any pics? I tried to post back last night but for whatever reason I couldn't reply to anything.

So I'm new to this forum, and I'm thinking of adding some layers to my new flock, 14 Tractor supply "Rhode Island Reds" that I'm pretty sure are ISA Browns or some other Red Hybrid. My chicks are about 7 weeks old and I'm ready to start some egg production. I live in the Battle Creek area, How much do you want for the hens and could we meet somewhere?

Found a egg under the roost, the Sumatra has very yucky diarrhea that's all over her vent, looks like cottage cheese, but acts fine. The RIR cross still has resp issues. Will keep my chickens, but with extra care so no one else gets sick! Any new chickens will be in a hutch far away.

Anyways, bought a grape plant from TSC, really hope it does good. Also, cleaned out the pond, sadly all the fish are dead. They where very big too. No frogs or anything. Accidentally put to much blue tint stuff in lol. Cut back the reeds.
