Can you get a close picture of your porcelain's comb? ...I'm thinking maybe you have an Oliver then if compared to it's hatch mate that I have. There is not much comb coming in at all on my little porcelain.

Today, 4 weeks:

@Maah , I did eeny meanie miney moe when picking which one to put in the box. Maybe we'll start calling Olive "Moe" instead. ;)

Broody hen question.

How long is TOO long for her to not get off her nest of eggs & "take care of (REALLY big, STINKY) business" ???

Here's a few pix...she had just gotten back on the nest in the 2nd pic after a 20 min, eat, drink, poop, power dust bath. When she's fully settled all eggs fully covered....

Nice set up. Mine refuses to move to the back so her nest is right at the front. I can barely close the door cause she's hanging out of it! She keeps pushing all the straw away too no matter how much I put in there so its all bare :(

First chicks I've ever raised! :D
Not very good pics, but there are two polish tolbunt, two tolbunt crosses, one buff laced polish, two EE, two black silkies, one partridge silkie, and two of a kind that at the moment, their breed name escapes my tired mind. Planning on getting about 3 more tolbunt and about 4 white silkies in a month. I'm hoping to use the silkies and maybe polish for 4-H.

Is there anyone from the Saginaw/Zilwaukee area that is raising chickens in a residential area?? I'm not starting our farm until next year once our property is fenced in from predators and nosy neighbors. Just want to know if you've had any issues with neighbors (mostly neighbors who hate change) and how it was dealt with..

My olive eggers are mostly boys it turns out and they love to crow. My rooster was crowing outside when I went up to the brooder room to feed and water early this morning and the chicks were having a crow-off. The older set (4 weeks old) were crowing and one little 4 day old chick in the next brooder over was answering. OF COURSE, by the time I ran downstairs and back to get the video camera, they'd all but stopped but I did manage to get one weak little crow in from the youngster and you can hear the older set crowing in the other box. It was much more pronounced before I turned the camera on, naturally.

That's great......I've two for sure rooster chicks 6 weeks and 7 weeks, thought I'd hear some crowing cause of the big roo outside, but nope.

It's only the olive eggers that are doing it for whatever reason. I have other roos in there but they haven't joined in yet. The marans/ee mix must be a virile one, lol.
