Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We have had bears come through here three times in the last couple of weeks. First it was a mom and two cubs,

YIKES!!

Those pics give me chills. Time to pack away that feeder!

@raZ
Check this out , I am so excited! Went out to transplant some winter sown stuff today, stumbled across my 2L jug of birdhouse gourds that I had given up on , the soil was all wonky and lifted up. I was like oh that is so strange. Well I lifted the clod of soil....

BEARS?! No thank you. We have them in our area, but haven't had any "sighting" within a few miles of our house yet.

NICE on the ws stuff! I just planted a bunch more containers yesterday, and found 3 more milk jugs last night. Had to re-plant all my squash and cukes because they got too leggy (started them in a flat in the kitchen, not ws'ed outside) and got REALLY shocked when i planted them.

I have 3 broody silkies and a kind-of broody cuckoo marans, and a THINKING about being broody ameraucana right now. What am I going to do with all of them? I can't make FIVE broody coops! I have eggs that I could give to all of them, but no place to keep them all separated. Maybe I should work on that today.......the rooster in the silkie coop is being a jerk since ALL his ladies won't get their butts of their nests!

I could handle a bear or two.

The power of nature just amazes me. From the animal births and eggs hatching to the forgotten seeds surprising us, I love it all.
I'm asking for a friend...Is a 13/14 week old Welsummer rooster big enough for freezer camp? I'm guessing that it would be a soup chicken. Opinions?

If I put wire on the bottom of the pen, then they couldn't get to the grass under it, which I wanted them to have access to it. I need to hire a professional!

Not what I meant if you were referring to my comment. I tossed a visual in for what I meant... it skirts the outside to keep predators from digging in.

I butcher all of my cull cockerals at 16 weeks, just cook them in a crock pot or dutch oven with some creamed soup or broth on low. Guests didn't even know they were being served rooster ;)

That is exactly like the outside of my pen, except I have 3 layers chicken wire, plus a taller layer of hardware cloth on the bottom. And the skirts we buried.

Hi HH, hope you can come, neat pics of the bears, do be careful,bet your dogs were going nuts
Snowflake, you probably remember how close the bird feeder is to our front porch. I just can't bring myself to put the feeders away since I enjoy watching the birds so much. I am very careful and never go out without the dogs. Yes they did hear the bears a couple of times.
I am thinking I might be able to come. It will be nice to see the friends I have made here again and also to meet some new faces.
