Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm glad you posted that. I was going to say something about the lactose - lactase connection but I don't remember my bio-chemistry all that well and I was too lazy to do any research.

On a side note, have you all heard about the Frankenmilk that Coke is producing?

Not franken milk, *filtered* milk. Sounds good to me.

I'm sorry, I did notice you back, lady. But, I was on the run and didn't take the time to say hi! Well, HI! I'm glad you stopped in and told us what's going on. I really do like seeing the old peeps come on and let us know what is going on with your lives. I miss the banter we had in the old days. Maybe I just chalk it up to the way it is. But... I still miss our old friends and the chit chat amoung us.
That's what I'm talking about Rose. The way it was (even in the old thread). Like you I just miss some of the smiling faces. Got a bunch of good ideas from a few and met some good people. You are truly a very helpful one also. Getting the CS site is a big deal in my book.

Like Randy said, these things move fast. One page may be more than someone wants to move back on and things get missed. If you really have a question that needs answering, and you have a good idea who may be able to do that, PM them. Works for me every time! My only sorrow is when some valuable asset leaves in entirety and you have no recourse. I maintain other threads but find BYC to be the one closest to my heart and that's why I'll not leave.

Ironically there was a thread on FB with comments from some of the old posters. They were lamenting how the group has changed and we have too many "know-it-alls" and too many newbies asking dumb questions. We went through something similar a few years back when the original thread was shut down and this version came into being.

I've heard a few other comments that questions don't get answered immediately or introductions get lost. This thread moves pretty quickly at times and not all people are willing to read the dozens of posts so things can get overlooked. You can set the subscription notification to be alerted immediately, daily, weekly or not at all.

This is social chat room more than anything else. But questions about health, breeding, care, coops and other topics are often brought up. So we get opinions based on experience and sometimes links to science-based research. Everyone who does answer a question does so in a sincere and thoughtful method. We may not always agree but the reader has information to form his/her own opinion.

I don't think anyone here is a snob. I don't think that this is a site for a select few people to dominate the site. Since I have been here I've met a lot of great people. I've visited their homes and they have visited mine. A few people have faded away for any number of reasons and we have new folks joining and becoming more active in their posts.

So while we miss some of our old friends we wish them well and hope they pop in from time to time. And for the new folks lurking and waiting to jump in, just do it.

We will be starting the Chickenstock comments in about a month. So stay tuned.

Hi ! I've been a member of BYC for 10 months now and posted a few times, but mostly I just love to read the posts on here, especially from you Raz!....your posts are so eloquent and full of humour, and always relevant. Thanks for all the wonderful information and insight you've provided in the past.....keep posting, we sure do love hearing from you

Yesterday was a good day. I got an egg after a month-long dry spell. One lone egg was gifted to me. I hope things start picking up but the young girls have begun a mini moult. What kind of goofy bird moults at 40 weeks?

On a side note, our very own Wingless has just published a book about the public comments made last spring about the GAAMP changes that took place on April 28, 2014. Details are here,

The title of the book is: On the Importance of Small Farms in Michigan: Public Comments on Right to Farm and the 2014 Site Selection GAAMP
ISBN: 9780986282102

It will soon be available at Amazon and other book outlets for $12.95. I also plan to order copies directly from the printer, which is much cheaper, and to pass the savings to folks like you who contributed to the book. If you’d like to order copies this way the cost is $5, including shipping. I will ship books as soon as I receive them, which will likely be in 7-10 days. Here is the link:

@Trefoil
Sorry about your silkie

@Opa
You are SO right about venison tenderloins!! Glad you've been successful this season,..as have we...

Well. Pretty sure I'm gonna lose my OE pullet, Kaia. Last week she was acting tired, funny. Brought her in for a night..she was eating, drinking & popping fine. Put her back out. Brought her back in the other day..limping, right wing dragging. Still eating drinking. Now. Can't walk. Won't eat. Marecks? Maybe but after research could be a ton of things. Don't know what to do. Just trying to get her to eat something right now.

700

Have you tried giving her tylan 200? I don't know the dosage information, but you can find it on the peafowl site, you'll have to weigh her or have a good estimate.
