That was some tasty stuff.

Yes, May could be dicey weather wise for sure. Doesn't matter to Brett and I really, we just thought to put it out there :) and you can have the fall get together at your place, right?

So happy to hear no reaction to the P.I. That last patch the hen chose was full of thorns! so either slashed or poison ivy the choice. Amazing flyer for sure!!!
Eh, it's Michigan, any month could have dicey weather. Unless we can get someplace indoors to do it, we're always going to have that worry.

So tonight I moved my three week old BC Marans chicks, and the olive egger chicks, from the garage brooder to the coop. Thank God! The dust is such a mess, even in the garage. I have four potential sections in the coop, so the babies are in one area with their heat lamp, and the ten week old chicks reluctantly moved to the next section. All is not happy out there, but they will adjust. Need chicks, anyone? Mary

I've had 2 raccoons in the coop this week. They're coming in through the trap door before the chickens even go in to roost. So far they've just gotten eggs and no birds. Any ideas to keep them away?

Are your birds confined to a run or free range?
I'd start trapping and dispatching(no relocation).

Uh oh. It looks like I might have a broody Australorp. She is sitting on 3 fresh eggs just laid this afternoon. She growled at me when I went poking around the nest box. This is the same hen that hatched out the duck eggs last year.
So do I work on breaking her? Or let nature take its course? What could I get with a silkie roo over EEs, BOs, and/or Black Australorps? I know that about half the eggs I'm getting are fertile.

By the time I get out of the hospital I could have a clutch of littles.

Raz, can you get some eggs from someone to hatch instead? My big birds would be mixes, but how about some cute Belgian d'Uccles? Candy and Bret might have eggs available that would be purebred too. Mary
