I drive all the way out to TSC and as I pull into the parking lot I realize that I left the 10% coupon at home. So I tried to sweet talk the clerk into letting me have it anyway. She wasn't having any of that nonsense. So I turned the on the Charm. Still no joy. Took Charm to the next level. All that got was that fish-eye look that women do so well. BUT! But it did get a second response. That response was "come back tomorrow with the coupon. I get off at 6:00 and you can take me out after".

I have a feeling that this could cost more than the 10% feed savings.

Does anyone have any easy ideas for providing more shade?

Grape vines. You get a two fer, grapes and shade.

Someone also planted a bunch of sunflowers around her coop and run for shade.

Yay! We got some rain... finally. What a dry summer!

We planted sunflowers around our chicken kennels last year (+ treats for the birds) - didn't get any planted this year tho

That is a good idea. We just built our coop and run this past spring, so I didn't get anything planted around it except some lavender, wormwood, and a few herbs. Does the grape vine cling to hardware cloth? The holes are so small that I wonder if the tendrils can cling to it? Maybe peas would work well on hardware cloth.

Grape vines get VERY LARGE and heavy, so would be a constant challenge on hardware cloth. Annual pruning required, and serious supports. Nice, though, and tasty. Mary
