Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

So after about 25 years of chicken keeping, I bought an incubator last month. It's got a nice batch of eggs, almost two weeks from hatch date. Lovely, right? Yesterday, three broodies in the coop, and tonight, FOUR broody hens out there! It's cosmic justice, or something, I have marked their few eggs, and plan to give them incubated eggs to hatch. I hope. Meanwhile, maybe it's time to build an ark, before Camp Swampy becomes Lake Swampy! Mary

I found 2 grocery bags of morels full right in my 'lawn' one year.
Lady I worked with in MN found a bunch in her pasture. was concerned that the ducks were eating them. Brought a BIG BAG in for me, the science teacher, to identify. I was overjoyed. I sure did identify them. Just to be sure, I asked a second opinion. The Social Studies teacher confirmed, and took his share of the bounty.

But, as I said before, I have NEVER found them when I go out looking... only when I accidentally stumble on them.

You live in a swamp? We bought the house on the farm from my in-laws. I built my chicken coops near where the tiles from the lawn drain into the swamp. LOTS OF FUN in the spring. Ducks love it.

OyVey, I guess!!

Should be an interesting spring/summer, eh?

Free to a good home: A healthy, one-year-old fawn Indian runner drake. He is docile with people and congenial with other drakes. He cannot be in a home with female duck hens as he is an overly-aggressive mater. I plan to cull him this weekend but thought I would give him a chance at rehoming first. PM me if interested; I live in Chelsea.

Oh my! I am sorry I missed your voicemail message about adding to our incubator! We turned off our main message machine and Brett does not check the voicemail that is left with the phone service unfortunately. I have been so busy, that I rarely have any free time.

We just hatched some Olive Eggers, Isbars, Crested Cream Legbars (all cockerels, yay...

Today I took my extra Chantecler rooster to the local auction, and he found another flock to have all by himself. Much better than freezer camp, and much more peaceful here. Also set up two dog crates for two of my broody hens, here's hoping that they continue to brood after the move. If they do, some of the incubator eggs will go to them.

It's chilly but beautiful out there tonight; finally clear skies, a nice moon, and NO RAIN! Mary

I'm going to throw this out here and hope for a win.

Since my mom passed away I have no more obligation to stay in this area. I'm free to move anywhere that I like. So who would like to have me as a neighbor?

If anyone gets a lead on a decent (or fixer-upper) house with a little bit of land, preferably away from city people and nosy neighbors please let me know.

With any luck I can sell mom's house and mine and be moved within 6 months or so.

PS Anyone need a black Australorp cockerel? He's ~11 weeks old. He has to go before he starts crowing.
