Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Randy, the infection most likely came from the hospital, not something you did. They never will admit it though. So all you can do is be prepared and follow their directions. Good luck!!
It was a strep found in the ER bloodwork. That's why they kept me. I have no idea what causes is. Or how it got on the inside of my chest. It was on the inside of the suture line.

Could be blood born, and found a spot inside your body where there was recent disruption. We have bacteria all over the place, inside and out, all the time just looking for a convenient spot to set up shop where the immune system may be challenged. Anywhere the tissue has been disrupted is more susceptible to those bacteria settling in.

Wash your hands EVERY time you are outside for any reason, or even inside at those important times, but especially after being with the chickens. It will take weeks before your tissues recovery, no matter if you are cleared to go back to work or not.

I wear gloves for most chores and all day at work. Hands are washed often. It's probably a combination of things. My electrolytes were running low when I went in. Sugar was off so they were giving me insulin. I guess I'm turning into a basket case.

I'm pretty depressed tonight. I had to have the devil dog put down after he broke free and attacked the chickens again. While trying to catch him I fell hard and hurt myself bad. He broke free last weekend and went after a weekend dog that was being walked on the road. That owner came back later with other people and threatened me.
I can't afford a suit or any other problems so a decision had to be made. The result was a bullet in the ear.

I just couldn't train this dog. Over 2 years of trying I just couldn't train him. I feel so bad about that.

Raz I'm so sorry you had to take such action. Certainly one of our least favorite responsibilities as pet owners is to send our animals on, no matter what the reason. Even culling a dangerous rooster makes me feel bad. My sincere condolences.

I have to add that after your posts about him I have wondered if he was safe to keep.

Please try not to feel guilty - he had the best life with you that he would have had anywhere. And you do not need to stress out too badly and set your recovery back.

I'm so sorry, Randy, that you had to make this decision for him. Sometimes it's really hard to do the necessary thing.
He did have the best life he could have had, and wasn't going to change.
I hope you haven't injured yourself or delayed your own recovery.

It almost happened last weekend when he broke free and caused a problem with a weekenders dog. So this was the final straw.
Who knows? Maybe he had an underlying condition that made him un-trainable. It was simply something that had to be done. 😞

I'm sorry Randy. I know it was hard no matter the reason. You gave him a chance. Some dogs are just bad. He was loved. It was the best decision you could make.
Just suks. You can give another dog a good home. They give so much love. Don't wait too long to rescue another.
