Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It's cloudy here today but at least it is much warmer than it has been. I have to bring in firewood today for sure. I kept putting it off because of the cold. All 3 L-carts are empty right now. Since I took them out to the porch I had a chance to sweep up the bits that always fall off every time I bring in firewood.

My dog has been acting goofy all day. She has been clingy all morning. Never more than a foot away whatever I do. Yes, even follows me to the bathroom. She hasn't been like that since 2014 when I brought her home. Life with dogs eh?

I need to figure a way to attach the beef suet to a tree. Any recommendations? The suet is vacuum packaged and feels hard as a rock. I can probably just use a long screw to hold it in place but I think there is a better way. Maybe I'll hollow out a niche in a chunk of firewood then attach that to the tree trunk. Gotta think some more.

26 here, cloudy, but bright. Mid-30s coming... But then the snow on the roads will probably pack into ice for sure. At least it'll feel better!

Now it really IS 6 weeks until spring. 42 days to the Equinox.

Raz, take a piece of hardware cloth and screw it to a tree on the bottom and sides, making a pocket open at the top, and drop the suet inside. Make sure you trim off any sharp ends on all 4 sides. Pileated woodpeckers don't do as well with hanging suet feeders, they need a lot of space for their big bodies and to allow them to brace their tail.

Cloudy here, and breezy. 29 but feels like 19. Yesterday was beautiful! Sunny and no wind. Daughter and I went for a walk at the Woldumar Nature Center. It was so pretty there! Was a work out walking thru the snow. Wasn't packed down like we thought it would be. Trails were hard to see. We got lost and wandered around for two hours! It was fun and we found our way out.

That's why I was surprised to see that one on the hanging suet holder.
I don't have any HC on hand but I have a few options. I found a nice piece of firewood that has a hollow cavity where a knot was. I'm going to try that on one tree. I'll scrounge around my scrap wood and whatnots to try a few different things. After I thaw my fingers.

Sun came out while I was loading wood. Blindingly brilliant reflecting off the snow and ice. Speaking of ice, the dirt road is completely ice covered under a skim of snow. If not careful, a car could easily spin out or a walker slip and fall. The area by the mailbox is very treacherous. It is a low spot that always gets iced over. I fell there a couple of years ago and banged my head. I laid there for several minutes before I could get up.

Look at that! Now up to 28 degrees. Pass me the tanning lotion. :gig
