Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

5500 pages of posts. The first page was in August 2012 after the original thread got shut down. Hard to believe that it has been 10 1/2 years and we are still going strong. We lost a lot of the original MI people. But we have welcomed a bunch of "new" people to take their place.

Nice sunny day here. It's 52 degrees but breezy. I've been getting a couple of eggs a day for a week. Well I'm back outside to do some chores.
Did you helped shooting the spy balloon 🎈 🤣🤪

A wonderful dinner my wife has made for us. Waffles with our own fresh made maple syrup, sausage and home grown eggs.

No, never heard of them. What did you order?

Re: Townline. That is where my local TSC and the place I buy my feed get their chicks. Maybe other TSCs in the area, since Townline is in Zeeland, so closer than Hoovers.

My first chicks came from TSC in Lowell, so they're Townies. Hatchery quality chicks, but that's ok.

All 3 of the Straight Run I bought ended up being cockerels. My neighbor has gotten chicks there, and also in Ionia, and all of her Straight Runs were pullets! So not fair! :lau
I got Barnevelders, Columbian Wyandotte, and Speckled Sussex...not until end of June though so I am sad to wait, but glad I locked in an order. Now just hoping their hatches go as planned!

1st time we ordered from Townline, we were a bit disappointed to end up with 3 cockerels and 7 pullets. We had ordered together with 2 other family members so all together the "95%" was probably fairly close. The 2nd time we ordered, we actually ordered extra to make sure we got the number of pullets we were wanting. Especially since we were ordering a few different breeds, we wanted to make sure we got at least one of each of those breeds. Well, they were all pullets so we had more eggs than we could use for awhile there. Last fall we were thinking we wanted 5 layers so we ordered 8. Once again they were all pullets. We've been pleased. They just started laying a few weeks ago, and we've gotten 7 eggs several times already.
I got on Townline website yesterday to see if they had any specials and they had a Disclaimer-not taking any orders due to increased demand. Oh boy.

I’m so greatful to be one of those newbies! I love this group! Today I just chilled at home, sick. I did go to the doctor though and they think I need antibiotics at this point. There’s quite a bit of inflammation in my lungs so they want to put me on a steroid as well. Hoping those will wipe out this dang illness. It’s extremely exhausting. Thankfully I’ve got a little snuggle bud die though this all. Also, I scheduled a vet appointment just to have that deformed leg of hers evaluated, and see if there’s much I can do. I’ll update y’all after the appointment. Hoping to get some good answers.
