Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Yesterday was awful, a thick yellow haze oozed everywhere. Watched the boats headed for Mackinac Island disappear just offshore into the smokey fog. We kept all the windows and doors tightly shut, and picked up an upgrade to the HVAC filter to remove smoke. And ordered an air purifier - those fires are still burning, it is only a matter of time until the wind brings the smoke back again.

Today is much better, although the sunshine is diminished and you can still see haze well above the horizon.

Although it was smoggy here yesterday I guess my area wasn't as bad as most of the state according to aart's map. Mother Nature has certainly been on a rampage, eh? I haven't had much rain here. Only 0.13 inches from the last "storm".

I stopped at TSC after work yesterday and they still had chicks. After pondering it for a bit, I decided to get some chicks. TSC had pullet Mystic Marans, Easter Egger pullets and straight run Buff Orpingtons. I'll get a brooder set up today and buy the chicks tomorrow, I think that will make the 2 remaining hens a bit happier. (the other deciding trigger was having to buy eggs at Meijer)

No sign of any raccoons for a week now so I'm a bit optimistic that Winston chased them away. If they return, Mr. Ruger can shoo them away. ;)

I'm keeping a compression dressing on the elbow wound. It helps a bit (I think) but I need to change it several times a day.

It's coming from Quebec.

Thanks for the map. Looks like it was definitely worse on your side of the state than mine.
It looks just as hazy this morning, too. I thought they said it would clear out a bit overnight? :barnie
I don't "smell" the smoke outside today like I did yesterday, but according to the advisories, the air quality is still at unsafe levels.
It's worse here this AM. 204, by the numbers, not good.

Hope it clears off soon. There is much to do in the garden. The weeds really took off after the rain we got this week. It was looking so good that I was thinking we'd be able to keep on top of it this year, but now I'm not sure.

Just noticed this map is from 3 PM. It was much worse in the morning.... I actually sent my daughter to look all around the house to see if one the the neighbors was burning something or there was a house fire nearby, etc. That was before I knew there was an air quality alert.
Yes, from 3pm 6-27-23.
I'm sure it varies a bit with the winds.
