Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Then I show him the eggs and how they have some "smears" on the shell. I explained the egg bloom and the reason that I do not wash eggs (until right before using). I explained the difference that he can expect between store bought eggs and the ones that I gave him. I suggested that he crack a store egg and compare it to a fresh egg.

Just a little while ago, he calls me to say that his kids were fascinated by the coloured eggs and how cool they were. The kids were so enthused that the whole family had eggs for dinner. Just not the white store eggs.

He is going to go make friends with those other neighbors now for more eggs

You only gave him 2 dozen? What happened to you bragging about all your eggs and having them come out your ears? LOL...
Unless you are finally selling them!
We finally finished the 9 dozen last week that I got from you!!! Just as I started getting a few of my own! Perfect timing!

I don't care who you are that's funny......................unless.

4 pups have found homes!
3 to go!!!

Glad to see Pat is doing well! I'm sure he'd love a silkie buddy to snuggle with. If you are still looking for a cockeral for your two black cochin hens, I should have some available late winter/spring if you are interested. Here they are now at six weeks - look how tiny my one pullet is in comparison to the four boys! They are all very sweet and beg for attention every time I go over there in the basement to do laundry.

omg. dog got into the chickens. 1 made it out, and he got all of the rest. I'm going to be so sick. One of the BRs is stil alive, her comb is still red, but she's really ripped up on her back. what do I do? help me please!!!!!

bring her inside where it's warm and quite. Clean off her wounds and access the damages, you can use super glue to close it up or sew her up if needed. I would leave a gap at the bottom for any drainage. And maybe give her an antibiotic, not sure what kind though, penicillin shot?

Is the dog yours or someone else. If it's someone Else's, call the police to get a report filed, and seek money for damages.

That is awful, I am so sorry. I'm no expert myself, but depending on how bad she is, I would either put her down (my husband usually does this with a heavy knife) or clean her wound and apply some sort of antibiotic ointment, without any sort of pain relief stuff in it. Maybe put some gauze over the bad areas, and then wrap around her body, not covering the wings. Just make sure it doesn't impair her breathing. Maybe somebody else has better advice, but I know sometimes you need help right away so I thought I'd chime in my thoughts. Was it your dog, or someone elses?

their backs are pretty bare. we cannot have chickens indoors for the winter. should i just put them down? it seems unlikely they would do well outdoors for the winter with no feathrs on their backs.

Ladyrsanti, Any time I read about a parents issues with children I'm pretty happy with all of mine being in their forties. The I think of how old that makes me and I'm not quite as happy. Sorry your son is sick and hope he's well soon.

I hear ya Opa. When I read/hear about parents with younger children than my own, I'm also pretty happy with mine being as old as they are... and then I feel "old". My son is back at school today, much better.
