Right. They do re-seed hence more plants every year. I've seen hillsides in Maine that cover acres and are there every year.Love lupines... too bad they're not a perennial... bi annual I believe, but I never had any volunteer after that. I have a few plants that volunteer lots of new ones every year via seeds. (some a little too eager!).
Most treated lumber now a days is not really rated for underground - hence the use of sono tubes/cement for decks... We're lucky (sorta) that we have gravel or sand all over
so we don't use anything else to put around our set posts. A previous fence we put in our old house (next door to us) was over 15 yrs ago, it's still nice and straight!.
The treated posts in MI are mostly red pine and I think they do a poor job of treating them. That said, I've cemented them in and they last a long time. I crown the base above grade to create runoff. Seems to help. If I could get cypress in quantity I'd be a happy boy for sure.
