I hatched my first uggo!! Not on purpose, it was a control egg from my sizzle in with the pheasant eggs. I have three pheasants hatched and six moe pips.

Well, I am glad chicken eggs don't need to be refrigerated. Because something went terribly wrong with the fridge. I was reading, when I heard an electrical sound (bbbzzzzt!) and then a crackle and rank smelling smoke started wafting into the kitchen. Yep, small electrical fire. I have no idea what caused it, but the unit is toasted, literally. I am just glad I was HOME, because that would have likely been a house fire...

Thankfully, there was a little fridge from my dorm days gathering dust in the garage. It saved the stuff that needed to be kept chilled (I just bought new medications for the poultry and goats). The freezer got emptied into the deep freeze (thankfully there was enough room!). No damage in and around the outlet (flipped the breaker on that one until I knew for sure). Seems the problem was limited to just the electrical parts on the refrigerator.

I never heard of a fridge doing that yes thank goodness you were home.

We knew this day would eventually come. Didn't think it would be this soon. Have to get rid of all of my birds in two and a half weeks. Zoning people for our area stopped by and said we will have two weeks from when we get our notice in the mail. Right now, we are looking at different options before we start getting rid of any.

Thanks everyone regarding my niece. I have not met her yet as she and her mom and dad lives in Wisconsin. But they will be coming over at the end of June for my sister #3 open house.

I have a hen who is trying to go broody. She has a "broody patch" on her belly, she spends at least an hour on her and her buddy's eggs. When I go to collect them, she puffs up in the nesting box, lets me pet her, and then decides she'd really rather go out in the run with her pal. She grumbles a bit before I pet her, but she calms right down.

Does this lazy broody hone with age, or is she just testing the waters? I dunno.

OMG! So SORRY Theron That sucks! On another bad note I called my dad and he said the garden is totally dead! Oh well looks like I will rip everything out this weekend and start again!

It was only a small bed and I over crowded them and needed to make another bed so I will just do it right this weekend. next month I am going to start working on making a chicken coop for my chickens next year. I figure with all the money I save using old wood I can buy a coop door opener. Has anyone used solar energy to keep the water from freezing in the winter?
