I don't know much about colour in eggs or the what means what with the breeds. Lavender, wheaton, chocolate, slate or whatever is beyond my ken.
I ordered a pair of "Ameracaunas" from a national breeder last fall. The chicks came from a contract breeder in Texas. As littles, they looked nearly identical until they got their feathers, then they were noticeably different. The nice thing is that they lay a blue-green egg. Some days the eggs look more green and other days look more blue to me.
From the same breeder, I also got 2 BOs. One lays the standard brown/tan egg that people expect. The other...well her eggs are what I would call "pink". Then there are the 2 cuckoo Marans. Cuckoo is a colour. Right? They look like twins but their eggs are quite different. They lay at different times of the day and in different spots so I can tell what egg came from which bird.
Now add in the Wellies that I got from
TSC 12 weeks ago (Townline source), they are supposed to be dimorphic as newly hatched. I picked up 6 pullets and a lone male. Turns out that I have 2 cockerals, both have the black chest feathers (I think aart described that) and they were sparring today. So of the others, without black chest feathers, one has a very prominent comb and wattles, more so than the obvious males. But when I offer treats, she/he/it does the hen squat. I suppose the only way to tell is if and when she lays an egg or crows.
I don't have a real point here. I'm just kind of bragging about my flock.
