Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Nice roof rake. Last year I waited so long and then had to get up,on the coop roof and shovel off about 2 feet of compressed snow. I don't look forward to it that's for sure. Yesterday, oh man...the worst drive to Grand Rapids I've ever done. Had a doc appt. early and by the time I got to 96 I was wondering just why I kept moving. I'm not concerned with my skills but the drivers that think they are on a race track are just nuts and cause problems for others. I've never seen so many tractor trailers and cars off the road after the first snow. Granted the roads were solid ice, at least an inch thick.

Good luck to the deer hunters on opening day tomorrow.

I'll have to get my snow rake down from the garage rafters. And go get my snow throwers from my Mom's garage.

I've been reluctant to leave the house since I was arrested last month.
The good news is that the 20th District Court reinstated my license and refunded the bond money. The judge admitted that it was a typo that triggered the whole mess in the first place. He blamed it on a clerical error with the data entry.

Some error! Just my name, address, DOB, license number, race and the charge. It would have been nice if he apologized for the trouble it caused. I have to appear in GC court the day before Thanksgiving since I was arrested in GC.

Wow. At least you aren't under "house arrest" kinda anymore. I don't think you are going to get any more "help" from that judge. Covering their butts. Hopefully, this will all be over soon for you.

Thanks! He's doing a lot better now. They're thinking he got some sort of infection in his lungs and that contributed to all of the fluid build up. They've got a lot of it out of him now. He was still kind of puffy when I saw him around noon, and chilled hands with blue fingernails, but later around 7 when I brought my brother over more of that puffiness was gone and his hands were warm. Plus, they got his blood pressure down as well. They're just likely going to keep him there for the weekend to take care of the infection. Which means that he won't get to go up north this weekend at all. Which is a good thing he went into the docs when he did because I don't wanna think about what could have happened if he went up there. His brothers are there, but its still way out in the boonies between Kalkaska, Grayling, and Houghton Lake.

I will keep him and your family in my thoughts.

@aart great improvisation for a rake! We got flurries yesterday and it looks like they are starting again but nothing big...yet. I did notice the dog's heated water bowl froze last night but hte chicken's bucket waterer didn't so there's that.

I McGyvered a roof rake for my 'not fixed this summer shed roof that collapsed in march'.

Found an old window washer with a good threaded handle socket, a piece of tough 1/8" thick plastic and used my 71/2 foot long floor squeegee handle.
Worked great...and will be easier to use once I get a pile built up to stand on. Left some on to show we must have gotten 3-4 inches just last night, about 6 total since yesterday morning.

That's great! We got terrible ice-dams last year, and all the home improvement stores were sold out of them for a long time. I'm thankful that we're all planning ahead this year. And I love DIY to help save money!

It always makes me nervous because you just can't control what other people do...even when it could impact you. After DH had his Saturn totaled from someone rear-ending him, we ended up getting a Blazer. I don't know what we did before four-wheel drive! And all that space!

Anyone else sick of the dark and the cold yet? I had to get in my coveralls this morning and hate not being able to run outside real quick to take care of the birds. Frozen water and frozen duck pond. The ducks walked out this morning checked the pond and walked back into the barn! I just left the door cracked open for them until they decided to give it a try again.

I have a 45 minute commute home from work in Dearborn and yesterday I wanted to inspect the new birds that were in quarantine before moving them. Of course it was barely light enough to do a mite check. I really don't like daylight savings. It is depressing...

Sorry for the negativity, just trying to come to terms with it being winter now. I'm just trying to look forward to my spring chick order.

Yes, the 'dark season' is hell on my depression......nothing really to do with daylight savings, the day would be short no matter what the clock says.
I use a head light alot, both inside and out, to do chores....adds some fun, I get teased about it, with functionality.
Right after Halloween I start looking forward to celebrating the winter solstice.

Since you practically drive by on your commute if you ever want to stop by or meet for lunch or a cup of coffee just let me know.
It seems like the rest of the chicken people around here have disappeared.

That would be great. I will PM you after our busy season at work. I work at Carhartt so it can be crazy right now.

Everyone disappeared from the cities since people are sick of dealing with them. I read your updates on the legal situation. That is absolutely ridiculous. if you ever can you should move out to the Ann Arbor area. Most people are very friendly to chickens and love having them around...even the roos!

Tomorrow is the opening day of gun season. This will be the first time in too many years that only David and I will be hunting on our property. With my old farmer's nephew and all of his friends no longer allowed I am actually looking forward to hunting this year. Last year I was in an operating room on opening day so this year is an improvement for that reason as well.

I hope all our hunters are successful and that everyone stays safe.
