Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

One of the guys from the garage that I hang out with stopped by tonight. He was pretty amazed by the chickens. How big they were. How pretty they were. How tame they were. The the kicker was when I called them by name and they came running.

Lucy, my EE, jumped up in my arms for her special attention. Imagine the surprise of man who had only ever seen chickens in a bucket or at the store. But despite the amazement, he was still afraid to pet her.

My Easter Eggers are super emo and want nothing to do with any kind of attention, lol. They have the eye makeup to go with the 'tude.

That's awesome! Seems you have some well behaved chickens.

This is probably a silly question but is there a difference between Red Sexlink and Red Cross? If so what is it and do Red Cross lay as many eggs as the Sexlink? Thanks in advance.

Well, I dropped of 2 incubators to my kids' teachers today! These 2 have never hatched before. I am picking up chicken eggs from Townline the week after Spring Break for them to hatch. :) I have auto turners, so it is easier on them. The 3rd teacher has hatched eggs several years for another parent. This year I asked her if she wanted to hatch quail eggs. :) Those will go to her some time after Spring Break as well. I am waiting to hear how many eggs I can get from the breeder. I suppose I will be very busy building quail pens this Spring Break.

The meat birds are doing well. I only lost one, even with my SO leaving the garage door open when he left for work on a very cold day last week. I noticed 2 hours later when I left to take the kids to school.

A little funny: My SO works at the SSA. He has an assistant to help with stuffing envelopes and what not. Well, his assistant is vegan. He told her about the chicks. Then told her about how excited Sandy is to tell people what we do to roosters. I came in today for lunch and my SO brought up the chicks again and she asked Sandy what you do with the chicks. Sandy told her that they are all roosters and then "We eat them! We name them Stew and make them into soup!" Hahaha The look on her face when Sandy told her that. And Sandy was really excited about it too. We told her that they were all roosters so she would not be sad when the time came.

Pretty sure I got some kind of critter in my chimney..  I hear it clawing up there.   :(

Eek! Hate the thought of that. We founds bats while tearing out the upstairs last year. First thing we started on once getting this place, tearing out crumbling old plaster walls. Still a work in progress. Really hoping they're gone now.
