I have to admit my mechanically inclined father helped me a lot, but we did get it done in a couple days. So much easier than my big coop.

. I have to admit I keep thinking of more uses for them. I might need a breeding pen in the future after all. For this year I plan to put some freedom rangers in it until they are big enough to be dinner!

Very good actually. Check out Hillbilly Hen's page. She used to be a regular here. Her's was covered with a heavy, clear, plastic sheet like they use at nurseries. The snow would slide right off which meant no load. Tarps will also work.

Odd question ... since ticks are already horrible this year, do we have to check the chickens or would they just eat them?

i havent had them for a winter...however i have seen many pics with tons of snow around them...plus they are heavy duty so i believe they will last a long time...i would like to put corrugated fiberglass panels on them...would work out great and you wouldnt ever have to replace the paneling compared to the tarps and plastic....but not a cheap endeavor.....thats for sure...its like 50 bucks a sheet....at 16 feet long...and only 30 inches wide...someday when i get all caught up....but for now...tarps it is

Ohhh that is what I've been wondering!!!.....
.......if one of those 5 gallon water bottles would fit into a 5 gallon bucket.
I've got to get a hold of a couple of those bottles.

Dimensions?...well a 5 gallon bucket is about 12" in diameter at the top.

I don't believe that in the brutal winters we have up here that a hoop coop would provide adequate protection or comfort for birds. You could easily add an enclosed coop to one side for the winter.

I made this feeder .....not quite what you show but it might give you a start in laying out what you want.



and used these dimensions for the openings...hope you can read the numbers.

I'm not sure if the hoop coops could handle the weather either. I plan to use it as a grow out pen and for the meat birds. Then in the winter I figure I can store my extra straw and food in there. I'll see how it does this year and go from there.
