Thats a beauty!

Ended up with 17 out of 33 locked down.
Stinker never blew, thank the gods, but I sure didn't do any eggtopsies.

Had to cull 3; open abdomen, way bad leg, and a partial zip assist whose neck never uncurled but was still alive.
I hate that part.

Had a couple chicks with eyelids stuck shut, one with both shut was cheeping like mad til I figured it out.
Poor thing couldn't see at all and when I got them open it darted around doing the bite everyone's toes thing and fight a little. Got it fed and watered and it settled down to the norm pretty quick.

Temps were a bit high I think, a few malpositioned pips that didn't zip, very sticky gunk.
Couldn't do the eggtopsies to know for sure.

Hatching vent, it's nerve racking.
Chicks are cute as h3ll, but am glad they are leaving in 2 days.

Wynette, one of your BC Marans hens died this summer, but the other birds are doing great.
Sorry to hear it, Mary! :(

Any ford tractor fans around here? There's an 8N for sale near my work and I kinda want to get it.
We have an older commercial-type Ford, a little bigger than an 8N, and I have to say, that sucker won't die, no matter WHAT we do to it! We love it.

Saw a fox creeping down around the creek towards our outdoor arena today. I hollered at it and it took off running for the woods. sat up the live trap for it to see if Mr. comes creeping around any closer to the barn. Thankfully, my girls are at least about another hundred yards away from the barn and closer to the house, so he would have to be pretty brazen to get to them, or go thru the corn field to get to them.

Also apparently had one of my older hens mess her upper beak up today. Not really sure how or how bad it is yet. My brother sent me a picture, but a photog he is not. will have to get a better look at it tomorrow and see if she's still getting around OK with it.
saw the pic; you may want to separate her to others don't pick on her, but there's not much you can do for her. I did have a cockbird recently crack off about half of his top beak - not sure how he did it, but I gave him a deep bowl to eat out of since he couldn't peck so well as it regrew, and it did finally completely regrow. Hopefully, your gal's will as well!

Pure breed silkies!!! I have blue, black, and red. $5 each

If you have a pullet or two, I'm looking for some females that would make good broodies. Where located? Pls. PM info.
