Walleye are always good eating!!!
I have the privilege of living by an excellent walleye lake. nice clean water walleye are hard to beat. I skipped opening day haven't seen many deer population is real low up here.
Here's hoping for a mild winter so the deer can bounce back. Hope you all have a good season...I think it might be a good time to steelhead fish.

X2 on walleye. The steelies are running in here now (west side mid state). I love wading and flyfishing a bead. They love them salmon eggs!

Got a dandy buck yesterday in the first hour on opener. Still have my private land doe and another buck tag. Hunting deer right up through Jan 1 is a blessing some states don't get. A friend of mine that guides fishing in the Sleeping Bear dunes area got a massive 8 point. Big for that area.

I'm originally from leelanau county (lot of sleeping bear in there) and the APR has done amazing things. We are already seeing a difference in just the second year in the surrounding 13 county area....a LOT more nice 2.5-3.5 year olds instead of nothing but spikes. Our weekend was extremely uneventful in the woods. I didn't see anything. DH missed (we have no idea how) a good buck, but DS1 got his first deer (a doe). Have spent a lot of time in a tree with very little to show for it.

My friend, and his parents, live smack dab in the SBD area near the Platte. I love fly fishing there! The Coho are the best on a fly. This year has been not so good. Apparently the deer made up for it. His Dad shot a 6 in bow and he got the 8 1st day of gun. I be up there soon enough for the Brown Trout. Cold but too much fun!

So the latest test results are in.
All things are in the normal range including the ferritin which went from 1479 to 88. That was the factor holding up the surgery. So I expect that they will be scheduling the grand opening very soon.

So would anyone be willing to check on my animals while I'm in hospital?

Also, do you know anyone with a decent couch that they are getting rid of?
Good luck with your surgery! I had my hip replaced and on week two of recovery :) There is a lady that lives near the Livonia area that may be able to help. When are you needing someone? Do you want me to ask her and get you two in touch somehow? She is on Facebook and was on here for awhile, not sure if she still reads this forum.

Can't help on the couch, but she has ties to free items in your area too. :)

Here in the U.P. Steelhead can be had year round. Of course spring and Fall being the best. But it's hard to beat a nice steely on the line for excitement. I passed on gun hunting till second week. I rarely see anyone on the woods but this year some guys from Lansing are parked right down the trail from me. I'll just wait till they go home. My son's live in traverse city...Seems like there are too many people there for good hunting. But I've had some good Fishing trips down there. I guess you would have to be in Good with some landowners. To get permission to hunt some of those farm fields and orchards. I'm just used to being on much thicker woodlands.

I wish I had a place to hunt this year. Just getting out for a few days in the woods is nice. My boyfriend hasn't had any luck, has just been getting rained on. He has seen a bunch of does, but nothing with antlers. Last year he was the first one at camp to bag a buck.

I would think you should have a lot of places to hunt down your way. I always see a lot of deer down around Escanana. Archery gets tough when you can't even take a doe if you have to. I usually pass up small bucks to take a doe with my bow. This year I'm not seeing much at all. But it is nice to get out and spend time in a tree stand.
It's just like fishing it isn't always about catching just spending time.
