Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

RaZ, I complained to TSC about the neglect. I messaged through FB. Got response back asking which store. That's why I asked you where you worked. Then you came back and and said they had no water or food again. So I messaged them again and said maybe it was time to call in the Humane Society. They came back and said the matter was addressed with the store and district manager. Hope the chicks are going to be cared for now.

Unfortunately if an organism can live for a long time in the soil, there is no way to evict it once it's there. Some organisms can't survive for long off their host. Allowing time and sun to do it's work as long as possibly will always help. Another option would be to relocate the pen, and possibly the coop as well, but that is a lot of work. Turning the soil over will not usually help much with the sturdier bugs, but replacing the top few inches of soil might. Hope it goes well for you.

Yo - what happened to your hens? Sorry I guess I missed something.
I'm not entirely sure most of them were over 5 years old. I think they caught something from the wild bird population since they had been free ranging a lot lately. It happened so fast.

I cleaned my front coop 4x8 and run 8x17 last night. Pulled 10 wheel barrels of dirt. Dug down to the red and ash grey sand at least 6 inches. Then I turned the hose on everything and washed all the dust off. I still need to sanitize the coop and bring in fresh sand, but I want to clean out my big coop 8x8 and run 8x20 first. Probably another 10 hrs worth of work. Still trying to figure out why I thought I needed 2 coops. :th:barnie

Any thoughts on putting lime down before I put in new sand?
I bought Oxine ah for the coops.

Moving the coops and runs are not an option. Unfortunately. Way to big and I built them to stay in one spot. I can't find a big picture of both but I can tell you they're roughly 52-54 feet end to end both coops and runs. I built fort nox to keep predators out since I live deep in the woods. Fox, coyotes and coons are just some of the daily/nightly threats that pass through my yard.

It didn't do a damn thing. I went to work yesterday at 3:00. I checked the chick pen and there was only one tank with chicks. But guess what? No water. There was a half-full fount in the empty tank so I swapped them out. As I walked back to the front, the receiver/manager had words for me. The polite version was that I'm out of my assigned area.
I closed last night so I checked the birds again. There is one tank with 9 birds. They got fresh water and a full feeder. The other 5 tanks were empty of birds but not stinking litter. A tank in the back warehouse has 3 birds, I don't know why. Sick or injured or dying?

Thanks for contacting TSC but it didn't seem to change anything.

I order a load of wood chips and put them in and around the coops. If I could’ve found a tree trimmer to dump a load, it would’ve save some money.
