Hey guys!
Hi Dave and Fox, welcome to BYC!
The most of the eggs in the bator hatched. I got 4 duds (3 had chicks formed which is always a bummer). I also snuck in a couple silkie chicks I picked up at FFH today. I don't think DH will notice them for quite a while with the 25 other chicks! Actually they will stick out like sore thumbs soon enough! LOL! I also have a hen that's gone broody too so now I'll have to deal with those chicks if she succeeds. I slipped in some of the eggs I rather she hatched. Every day I have to lift her and pull out eggs from other hens. I put in a second box and a few hens used it, so hopefully they'll leave her alone.
We put up a bunch of fencing to keep dogs and chickens/turkeys out of the garden, and another section the other day to keep the dogs away from the chickens/turkeys. We put up a separate run for the turkeys and I cleaned out an area I use for feed storage, and this will be the temp coop/run for the new chicks. I will bring some of the chicks to CS20, they are a barn yard mix.
I have been thinking about doing Coturnix quail... but just mulling in around for now.
Still trying to work on the garden prep work but the rain isn't really allowing the dirt to dry out much. I am going to try to put some spinach and lettuces in the garden now. I don't think it's too early for them, but hopefully not too late either. Meijer by me brought in some garden start plants where the house plants are kept, and they rang up as house plants when I picked up some dill herbs. I already have tomatoes and green peppers started. I am also trying to start my own sweet potato starts.
Looks like lock down for us in MI, will continue past mothers day to May (14th or 15th?) with the mandatory face mask to be out in public. I will be staying home... I refuse to wear a mask. Luckily I went to the mill for feed before this took affect today.
Hope everyone is doing well!
