It was 79 here at 4:45.... crazy weather.

Gorgeous day . I felt guilty coming inside to make dinner. I built a second roost in the coop today - hoping to reduce the pecking when the young ones are old enough to join the big girls. They had a long 4 level roost but of course there's only a one foot section that is prime real estate. I put a single level roost on the opposite wall at the same level as the prime spot...we'll see I guess. One of my hens got a beak full of chick feathers today when one if the 7wk olds escaped me. No injuries but I feel bad. Scared the poor little thing.

Its been nice up here today also. Temp is 59 right now. Colder in the house then outside the past couple of days.....why doesn't that work like that in the heat of summer? Anyways sounds like you southerners had a much warmer day.

It never cleared up up here. Cloudy, cool and misty all dang day. So much for a predicted high of 70. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

It was almost too hot for me as I was working outside in the pasture. Wanted to kick off those rubber boots and go barefeet, but there are too many prickly weeds in the pasture.

BUT, it was a very nice day.

Cool with fog and a heavy mist here too, the foghorn on the Bridge hooted all day (you can still hear it now). Love that sound - that and the long, low boat signals as they pass in the straits.

Hey everyone... On another place, that I can not identify, there is a guy who takes these absolutely beautiful pictures of his birds. He goes by the name of decoyman... I wanted to share this picture because it is FABULOUS!

I think one of my roo chicks is going to be cucoo like that one!

RaZ - I will try your garden idea! Last year I used Round up and it was not a good idea!

Oh no! Never use roundup in the veggie garden. Not only will nothing grow for a year or more but then you're eating that stuff in whatever does grow. Not good eats. I understand the need though. My poor old neighbor uses it in place of weeding because he's...welll...old and can't bend over much. But when he offered to have me pick his tomatoes this summer while he was on vacation... I didn't want to eat them! Everything surrounding the tomatoes was dead from spraying. So I canned them and gave them back when they came home. I felt bad but they thought I was the sweetest thing.

He also suggested, since he watched me labor on creating my garden plot this year with nothing but a shovel, that I spray the whole thing and then dig it up. ERm... no thanks. I grow veggies to have healthy veggies. If I wanted that stuff in my food, I'd go to the grocery store. I didn't tell him that but I was thinking it. Just my opinion on the stuff though. Obviously many people find it works miracles. I like it for killing hydra-like mulberry trees that won't die.

I have what I believe to be a pair of lavender orpingtons. They are only about 2 months now, but if you are willing to wait until they mature, you are more than welcome to some hatching eggs.

Should be working today, but it has been so slow I was told not to come in today. It's going to be a small paycheck this week. Thinking I need to look around for either a second job or a different job. With the loss of DH's income, just can't afford my hours cut now. On top of that, my boots totally died yesterday, the sole peeled back halfway down. Had DMIL buy some shoe goo to hopefully extend their life until I can buy some new ones.

On the bright side, DH's cellulitis was only in the starting stages, so a whole bunch of antibiotics daily should take care of it and hopefully (fingers crossed) not delay surgery next week.
