Coffee is a necessity this morning. Since I live just north of Hell I must advice everyone that the current temperature is cold enough for it to freeze over. This is to early and not a good portent of things to come.

It's all frozen over. I was just out there

I went to let the big girls out, and they just stood at the door looking at me as if to say... Uh uh, we aren't going out there! Not even for pumpkin!

I checked all my ? marked eggs early this morning. It looks like all have development except for maybe 3 blue eggs, and possibly the other two blue orps.

My brown eggs are all still moving around in there. Maybe we will have a little Gandalf after all.

4 more days to go, and I know....Don't open the incubator!

Good Morning----------------hope everyone got the last of the goodies out of their gardens!!

Cub------you will enjoy visiting MJ's-----even with or without her yummy baked goods.

HBH-----I LOVE your new avatar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fowl Fest was fun and interesting, and not long after we got home I got a call from a friend that she was going to extract honey from her bee hives. The kids and I jumped in the truck and went over to watch. It was really fun to see and interesting. I am so glad God blessed me with talented and tricky friends that enjoy country life and homemade and old fasioned things like I do. We are going to my MIL's tomorrow to pick grapes to make into wine-----should be fun and I am looking forward to learning the wine making process. Besides, it is fun to be with my MIL.

Hi Chicken Friends!!!
It has been forever and a day since I have been on here and I miss you guys!
It was a very busy summer and it seems fall is just as busy.
I have my 3 kids, plus my 6 daycare kids almost everyday, between that and chickens, canning and everything else its seems I barely have an extra minute!
I hope that everyone is doing well and hopefully I can get on here to chat with everyone more often now that things are slowing down outside!

oh that is great! The ones I kept were roosters and I gave them away. The other 3 polish hens I had all got killed.

I lost 5 chickens to some animal that is living in the corn field. I lost one hen one day and four hens the next. Needless to say my flock can't free range anymore until the corn is cut. They are not liking being penned up, but I can't let them out and risk losing them.

No way would I forget a pretty lady who also likes chicken. Now remembering your name is another story. I'm starting to suffer from CRS and for the life of me I couldn't remember your name. It's rather embarassing, so I'm learning to smile a lot. Sorry. I did sure enjoy talking with your husband at Chicken Stock and I can't remember his name either.

I'm absolutely HORRID with names myself! I swear I have to meet and re-meet people all the time

I tell you, those naked necks I bought at Fowlfest are so ugly they are cute. We named them Frankenstein and Dracula. They won't come out of the hen house yet - neither will the Polish we got - but I figure they will when they are ready and accustomed to the others

Sam - did you stay until the end of Fowlfest? We were wondering if they started auctioning off or just trying to get rid of the birds that they brought? We were tempted to pop back in later but figured 4 was enough to bring home along with the other 50 we already have!

I really enjoyed Fowl Fest and it was great to get to see some of you. We left shortly after we ate. I didn't buy any birds even though the temptation was great.
We left shortly after we ate and took Chelsea to see Bronner's. All and all a very pleasant day.
I did buy a 18x18x59" cage at the show and spend today constructing a wire bottom and pull out droppings trays. Then I mounted the thing inside the coop. I then brought all my bantam rooster inside. I don't want to have to grease roosters this winter; particularily since it didn't keep my Welsummer rooster from getting frostbitten.

Thanks, I have to share the story behind it.... It is an outdoor chapel in South Carolina called Pretty Place. My mom was from SC and she visited Pretty Place once and fell in love with it. When she found out that she was dying she decided that she wanted to have her ashes scattered at Pretty Place. Whenever I am able to make the trip south I try to visit there.

That is a wonderful story and memorial to her. It makes me love your avatar even more.
