Our hens did the buc buc bucwing thing when there was a ground predator like a cat in the yard. But I hope in your case an egg is close!
Let me know if the fan works! I am curious about that!

My cochin bok bok bawks madly around the yard when she is ready to lay. Lol...

They really loved my broccoli plants after I harvested the heads. I let them grow just a little more and then uprooted the whole thing and threw them one a day. Same thing with my spent lettuce and spinach plants. I love to watch them enjoy their treats.

I planted cabbages just for them this year.

Ok you need to have some type of peace offering to get this woman out of your hair. It's too hot for all her negative effort. I think you mentioned that she wasn't interested in free eggs but is there something else you could do? Nice little note, invite them over for dinner and wine.

I have a neighbor that I KNOW wishes I didn't have chickens but she tolerates us. I think she does becuase I am super nice, she gets free books (i work in publishing), free eggs, her husband and her friends think my coop is super cool (so she brings them over for random viewings...which makes her super interesting

) I tease her often that she is going to come home one day and I'll have a couple of goats.....HAHA. http://www.wpclipart.com/smiley/best_smiley_set/smiley_devil.jpg

Do you have pictures up anywhere of this super cool coop?

I have 5 silkies and 4 bantam cochins that continue to sit despite me removing the eggs they were sitting on. They expired so I had to take them before they got all nasty. We stuck a bigger fan in there and spray mist them with a mist bottle.

Five am and the temperature is a balmy 72 degrees. I sure wish this was going to be the high for the day. I've got a 12x32' deck job that I've got to take the top off of and I will head out in a little while to start it. I'm not sure how far I am going to get on it but since the temperature is going to be near 90 by 10am I don't think it is going to get totally done today. As I type the news on television is talking about how to reconize the symptoms of heat exhaustion. I'm pretty sure that I am already exhausted and I haven't even started yet.

Hey Opa,

Good luck with the deck job! I have a farm so I don’t have the option to stay inside otherwise the animals will get pretty grumpy. We also don’t have AC in the house at all. What helps me is to put a wet wash towel around my neck. The little breeze keeps it cool and will keep you cool as well. If it warms up. Just hold it under the cold water again, wring it and keep going. I am very prone to heat exhaustion (just had it on Sunday after building a deck at the cottage) but this has helped 100%. We also have a small kiddie pool in the driveway that we take a dive in when we do hay. This cools your entire body instantaneous. If all else fails stick your head in the freezer for a minute. Good luck

I'll try to find some. It's actually not that cool

We took an old shed and converted half of it into a coop and the other half to store all the food, treats, and bedding for the girls. My coop has become "cool" since my neighbors friends think it's pretty nifty. (score for me!)
