Bummer, looks like you can't just pull in and set up to sell birds. You have to "enter", $3 per bird and selling has to go on inside the arena. At the Frankenmuth one people were parked all along the roadside going up to the barn and selling out of the backs of their vehicles, much like at chickenstock. I was there this last spring.

Also strange it looks like location has changed. Perhaps I can call and get scoop on Monday.

Considering some of the posts that said they got chickens with lice, mites and other problems, I can see why this show requires a fee to sell. Looking at the website, they want certifications of health. One of their pictures shows hundreds of birds in close proximity to each other. If one had a contagion, it could spread.

That might be overkill but it seems like a good idea to prevent people from just dumping unwanted birds on unsuspecting people.

At Chickenstock, there was that family that was buying every bird they could get their hands on. We all knew that any chicken they bought was going directly into the chicken pot. There was no rhyme or reason to the birds they bought. I think that at a show like this, that would not take place.

Thanks to this group, I've learned quite a bit about buying and raising chickens. And as a result, I like to think that I'm raising a healthier flock.

DITTO...this fowl fest seems to be more of a SHOW, then a SWAP MEET, don't think Im going. But Frankenmuths was still great and I learned alot there. I think it was John Blehm who had Chante's there.

I am totally inspired by this Frankenmuth event. Will definitely be looking into it. But what I came on for tonight was a little encouragement ( or reality check as case may be.). We got 4 pullets ISA reds in April. In July we lost one to what I assume was coccis. Tonight we have one in the hall closet with what I'm guessing is gapeworm. Don't know if she'll make it. Because I come on the forum largely to diagnose these issues, I'm getting the feeling chickens are quite fragile, easily stricken animals. I had thought they were hardy beasts. Am I off base? Is chicken keeping a constant heartbreak?

They CAN be, as anything else I guess. If a pack of dogs has their way you can lose lots all at once. My own Jack Russell killed 5 out of 6 babies last year. I tightened up my security. But I am understanding a mink or weasel can get thru chicken wire and they are deadly if they do.
I have none vaccinated that I am aware of.
DOn't know of a chicken-vet in my area. How would one find THAT out??

I was at TWO different things in Frankenmuth. Perhaps it wasn't the fowl fest where people were buying and selling. I think they did a 4-H thing later. That may have been where I saw all the cars selling out of their trunks. It wasn't ALOT of people, very small event. Only their 2nd one.
