Theron - I'm so glad to hear that your hen made it OK!
un-named - I'm sending good vibes to your duck as well!
Chicken Grandma - Prayers for you!
RaZ - What a shock it must be to find one of your supposedly healthy birds dead. That hasn't happened to me yet, but I know it's just a matter of time. I'm sorry. I'm thinking egg bound as well. Also never considered doing my own necropsy, but why not? You go first.
BobBry - When I log on I go to the Michigan Thread and right under
Where Am I? Where Are You? it says how many new posts there are since the last time I logged in. I just click on that and it takes me to the first new post that I haven't read yet. Not sure if that's what you are asking, but that's how I do it.

Another beautiful day for free ranging! I'm going to watch the game today, but only for the commercials.

Thanks for the good vibes to the drake! He's holding his own, even dunking in his water dish which is a good sign too. He has the vitamin drops in him and the penicillin now. If that works I need to get weight on him. He is very thin and light weight. I don't do duck treats too much but might have to start to get him to eat. He likes string cheese.

Completed coop

Inside, lamp installed

Chuckles installed...

kinda had to rig a cover so they could look outside. I don't want them to run around yet...
Now for the best ones of all

Mamma and 3 of her babies... 2 are still in the process of hatching...

Sorry the last pic there is so grainy. I caught them on the lucky side. I had my phone and was able to catch this. SOOOOO Sweet.

I'm glad to hear the sick birdies are doing better.

Raz - sorry about your girl. How old was she? We had our male guinea just drop over dead in front of us. We were told many unexplained deaths before the age of 1 were genetic or something they were born with.

Nova - great job on the coop! That little yellow chick is adorable!

I'm up to two pips now and I can hear chirping and see some egg movement in another egg. I am not going to watch the superbowl with the rest of the family, but rather am headed to church and then enjoying some peace and quiet at home... and hopefully watching some hatching.

Ok... So I got 5 eggs today... WOOHOO!
BUT...
One of those eggs was completely shelless. Veena, my SLW laid it. How do I know it was her? Cuz, Skatter lays a little blue green egg, she laid it on the Skeeter side... Its in the pic of the little chick I am holding. Vanna was in the nest box when I found the rubber egg, and It was too early for it to be Vonnas. She's a 3 o'clock layer... And Fiametta is a 4 o'clock layer, and she lays her egg in the cat carrier... BUT WAIT! Yesterday, I found an egg on the top of the nest box dropped from the roost... Back to today... SO, I get my shelless egg, was kinda cool to see, I chucked it for the chickens to munch on... It lasted all of 3 seconds. Veena however is all hunched up, she is walking around, staying with the other chickens, but she looks miserable. They do have oyster shell at their disposal and I do feed them back egg shells. Heck, the freaks even ate the egg shells from the hatchlings! Go figure. LOL. Think she'll be ok? Should I confine her? She is eating and half heartedly scratching...I have not had any fragile eggs or anything... And I do keep an eye on that. But, I am worried about my girl. She's standoff-ish, so I will have to catch her off the roost later If i should bring her in...

Raz, I'm so sad to hear about Crispy, I know how much you have enjoyed her.

Theron, good news about your dawn.

Just put the girls up for the night. One of the Welsummers decided to lay her egg outside in. a pile of hay, the dipstick. She does lay the most beautiful heavily speckled eggs I have ever seen.

Un-named... get a few Roma tomatos. Cut them in half the long way. Put the vitamin drop on it, and then set it in front of your duck, stand back and watch the fun. My ducks love love LOVE tomaters..

OH, and my duckies got the fish treatment today. They got 40 feeder fish put in their pool after the water change. Those poor fish lasted all of 2 minutes. Not kidding. We timed it. Was the funniest thing to watch. Poor fish. Happy quackers.

Sorry to hear about the sick birds but happy to hear of the recoveries. Worrying about a sick animal can be pretty bad.

Then there is the shock of finding a healthy bird dead in the coop. That's what I discovered this morning when I went out. My BO Extra Crispy was dead on the floor with no apparent sign of injury. She died sometime during the night for reasons unknown. She was fine yesterday and last night. She had also been very good at laying those big eggs of 70 grams or bigger.

The other birds are fine from all appearances. They got some leftover macaroni as a treat. Even the 2 Ugo's are getting better about coming when called. Of course a handful of mealworms helps with that training.

Well I better get busy cleaning up the rest of the house for the SuperBowl party.

Sorry about Extra Crispy...

I hope you have a good time with your superbowl party.

Also, just because you are having a party doesn't me you need to stay off of BYC. Unless of course its a bunch of manly men there and ALL us broads here would make you look nuts... LOL
