Good, that makes me feel better for not doing it! I almost feel guilty cuz I haven't EVER done it, and I keep reading on different threads that it should be done twice a year. I have had mine for near a year... AND have only ever done the preventative..

There are far too many factors to consider when designing an effective parasite management program to simply say: it should be done x times per whatever time frame. But people LIKE those kinds of guidelines so they get bandied about a lot. <insert the smiley that indicates my head exploding in frustration here>

Management, genetics, environment, etc. all needs to be taken into consideration. If you keep your birds penned they're more likely to carry a clinical parasite load than birds who are not penned. If you choose to breed sub-par birds you're more likely to end up with parasite issues in your flock. If you live in a climate that is hospitable to parasites year round, you're more likely to encounter issues with them. And so on and so forth. It is not a one-size-fits-all issue and there's not a one-size-fits-all answer -- despite what some people, including some vets, would have you believe.

I have chicks Mom... Could steal one from Skeeter... It'll be a faverolle/ee/or cochin mutt.. LOL You can't have my Roger/Buffy chick.

Thanks Nova- but for fun, type Taylor, Michigan into Google and see just how far away I am from you. I am not thinking any chick is gonna get me to drive 9 hours round-trip to get 'em a buddy. Lol. I do appreciate the offer, though. I wont count this chick before it hatches, but if it does, I already know its gonna be louder than Beeper was. Beeper was a very very quiet chick. I KNOW what a pain a lone chick is. I guess I can just stick it in my bra and let it hang with me all day long. However, taking it to work that way, may not be a good idea.
Look at what I have been dealing with EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR A WEEK SO FAR:

Nah, mine free range all day. They are never confined to their coop. I confined them one day for most the day, but that day we got 8 inches of snow in 4 hours. BUT they did have their winter run to run around in. I like the idea of keeping it natural. I clean the coop probably more often than I need too also.

I guess these last few weeks, with the wry neck, impacted crop, sneezing, shell-less eggs.. Am I missing something...

Olive...my husband offered a hammer..lol.

He's an evil police dog that had surgery...been trained to rip my throat out, and I have to care for him and clean his darn wound every day and take him out to go to the bathroom...that was him telling me how much he wished I would die- right before I took him outside. The whole time, well aware that at any moment he could decide to just kill me.

All the other police dogs i work with are wonderful- great dogs when they arent "on the clock". Not this one, he has been a donkeys behind since the first day. for years. I think that makes him a bad police dog..but his department doesnt think so.

heck no! If that was my dog, he would have taken a dirt nap a long time ago.
This dogs life is valued at a higher monetary value than you and I combined. He is a member of a downriver police force around here.
He even has a badge. But he is a jerk. Lol, love my job.

eta-

psssh...YOU wanna try to get a muzzle on that? I had to put his leash on to take him out today, and almost peed my pants. its easy to say, "dont show fear.." quite another to actually NOT show it, feel it, etc.

Crazy psycho is staying with us until he is healed. He had his anal glands removed. I guess his partner cant clean poop off his butt. This dog is so scary. He flips on us without warning constantly- if he didnt have that e-collar on, (his tenth one, btw- breaks them off) I would never be able to put a leash on him. We have three e-collars stacked on him because he breaks them off like they are made of parchment paper.
Something about him-- when he lowers his head and does that deep throated growl, you KNOW he means everything he is thinking.

The doctor told my VA to take him out yesterday- and I intervened and said, "No, Ill do it"...doctor asked me why - "why dont you just have the VA do it?" And I told him, I would never have one of my employees do something that I wouldnt do myself. (Im their supervisor)..besides the fact that that particular VA only weighs about eighty pounds and the top of her head comes up to my shoulder. NO WAY I would put her in that position.
I will be glad when he gets back to the force and is not staying at our clinic. He is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Every year I am part of a fundraiser here in my city that collects money to buy bullet-proof vests for the police dogs. I have photos of my daughter when she was small, laying on top of one of the police dogs- when they were "off duty" they were wonderful friendly dogs..definitely not like him. I dont think that means that they werent any good at what they did. Because the moment they were 'on', they were different animals all together. But this one is always, "on". I just hope I never accidentally say the word that means, "Kill me now". lol
