Oh gosh, the ticks are awful here to begin with! Even with frontline, they latch onto the dogs after each outing into the yard. Humans too, since we can't frontline ourselves! Hopefully my chickens can keep up, since they put a sizable dent in the tick population last year!

I have my Jacks on revolution (from the vet) and its worked very well for us. Hubby has carried a couple of ticks in the house on his clothes so I know what you mean about frontlining ourselves! Last year has been the worst I've ever seen it around here for the ticks!

Middle left, over by farmerboy, between him and grand haven. I am closer to the lake though.....You are right about all the little micro climates. Sometimes just a few miles can make a difference. if you were to plant broccoli in the spring, when would you do it? Also, does anyone have a pickle that they could recommend? I prefer non hybrids, and am looking for the darkest slender pickle that i can find, for dills. Last year i used snow's fancy pickling, but they got too much shade and did not produce. And the few they did were pale and blocky. (Not like the pics)

For spring broccoli you'd want to start the seeds inside 8-12 weeks before last frost and then set them out about 4 weeks prior. Still, depending on how quick the weather warms you can end up with issues. I have pretty much relegated broccoli to the fall anymore. I do still grow cabbage in the spring, but not broccoli or cauliflower.

I would use a hacksaw. Or, if it is close enough for an extension cord, a sawzall with a metal blade.

welcome bullof7battlew, don't think I have seen you before

or I have forgotten which seems very like me lately

DH says hacksaw also, don't want to wait to long you may have to deal with the stink and flies. If you don't want the whole rack and are good with individuals you might try loper if you have a really good pair. Have fun with that

Up at my normal time but got busy with other things so I didn't post. Plus I didn't have anything worthwhile to add, not that I ever do, but I guess this morning I was just to lazy to type.

I sure hope that Daron finds his peafowl. It would sure be a shame if a predator got it. As high as they are prone to roost maybe it made it through the night and will rejoin the flock today.

Just noticed that my title has been changed from the "old rooster" that I had selected to "flock master". I wonder how that happened?

I received this in an e-mail this morning. It is the same date as the chicken raising thing at MSU (March 4/5).

Opa, could it be beacuse your golden membership has expired?

All this talk about spring hatch and early planting is not helping my concentration. I really need to be focusing on homework and you guys are distracting me.
I have my first mid-term starting on Tuesday and it takes two weeks to do. The second week is actually Spring Break so it's kind of a double whammy. Then another mid-term the week after Spring Break.

I don't think I'll get any spring chores done until August.

Thanks for the thoughts about my peafowl, he still has not turned up. I will have to find my other peas that are free ranging somewhere to see if he has rejoined the flock.

All this talk of planting seeds and stuff is making me antsy to plant pepper seeds and some other stuff. Might get them ready this weekend. :yesss:

Sorry for not being an help to ya, RaZ.
