Raz - Congrats on the new chickies! How many does that make it now? I was in FFH today (twice) and I also talked to a lady about chickens and told her about our forum. :) I did resist the BO again....they are sooo cute though

I bought my rescue a Thunder Shirt today. We are going to be diligent about trainer her on it. I don't want to go through another spring storm season drugging her. Pray that it works!

My sister has those for her dogs and she swears by them. Says they are the greatest things ever.

DH just asked me how much it's supposed to rain since it's been doing it for awhile here and I said until it starts to snow.

His reply: Man, we're going to have to put life preservers on the pigs if this keeps up. If we put two together, Rosie (600 lbs) should be able to float!

He was kidding, but he really cracks me up sometimes.

I've heard of a pig in a blanket, but I can't say that I've heard of a "pig in a life jacket".

There is a website, Zazzle.com that we could get shirts made from... Some one artistic could design it, turn in the design, so we could individually go on the site and order our shirt in the size we'd need. They start at $15 bucks. Can order them in girl cut also for those who like a girl cut t-shirt versus the general plain shirt. just a thought.

I might be artistic!

Hope everyone is doing well with the high winds.

My! :th 6 pages in 5 hours!

Welcome to Michigan thread Juise! Like everyone says, its best to quarantine new stock. Its best to quarantine for 30 days, before letting them in your existing flock.

Has anyone have driven in a downpour with all windows rolled down in your car? I just did, boy, I was cold and slightly wet when I got home. I am sure you all were thinking- ''What in the world is that ''Dummkopf'' was thinking?! Trying to catch pneumonia or something?!?!?'' I have a perfect excuse IMO for it. The reason for this ''Dummkopf'' barreling through the downpour getting the inside wet, was this- We were doing the biggest house cleaning that we have ever done in our lifetime, and we were putting tons of old paint containers, and stainers from the closet in the basement, into the back of the van. I use the van for driving to work. Somehow one of my youngest sister sat down a container of varnish in the middle of the van, and it had tipped over spilling it all over the side of the van. We did not noticed until we done loading all the paint cans, and were going to my dad's store to throw the trash at the store's garbage trailer. Man! When I smelled the fumes from the varnish, I got a headache right away, so my mom had to take us to the store instead of me driving it. I could taste it, and it was :sick ! My dad said the only way to get rid of the smell is to let it evaporate. :barnie That was yesterday, and it still smells strong today, and we had all the doors of the van left open to air out, therefore that is why the ''Dummkopf'' had all of his windows down on the way to work and back in the rain. :barnie

Raz almost every single post I've had has been a perarl of wisdom. If you are in doubt just ask me.
Not doubting your wisdom in any way, shape or form.

Just every once in a while, us younger roosters feel our spurs and have to crow.

Thanks all for the welcome, though I am not sure how well I will be able to keep up! You're a chatty bunch.

We're planning on quarantining them, just trying to figure out how best to do it. The best option is a barn that shares one wall with the current coop, and though the wall is solid, I am not sure that qualifies.

The next best option is the bathtub, and I am not eager to do that again.

The other problem is that our current birds free range... So I am not sure what to do with the new ones during the day. We do have a nice, roomy run that our girls could be confined to for the month, but oh, how heartbreaking to do that to them in the Spring! They will not forgive me soon.

(Why don't we have an angry chicken smiley? We really ought to!)

I don't think I will be making it to MSU, I'm a full time mum, and we're on a budget, but I will have to look into these chicken stocks.

Forgive me because I could not read too far back in this thread, (it's a whopper!) so I am not entirely sure what you are trying to do with T-Shirts. But $15 a shirt? That's craziness!

I screenprint, and depending on what you are trying to do, I could surely do it for less than that if you want. Let me know if you're interested.

Maybe the new chickens in the run while the others free range? Where do your free range chickens go at night?
I don't have a good answer for you. I have violated the security protocol a couple of times due to lack of space but I haven't had any problems yet. I even introduced 2 new 7-week old chicks to my coop last month with no signs of trouble or illness.

The chicks I got today will not be going outside for several weeks but will probably go in to the big coop like the other ones did.
Writing it out sounds like a case of "do what I say and not as I do" but it is a risk that I have to take.

I guess you will have to weigh the factors and how they apply for you,
Wow! That sounds like crappy advise when I reviewed it. Sorry about that. I should delete this whole post, except it did work for me.

The coffee is strong and hot so pull up a chair and lets enjoy a cup or two before going out to see if the wind caused any damage. That was quite the wind that came through here last night. Hope had a large rug hanging on the clothesline and asked that I go out and get it before it wound up in the next county. For a moment or two I thought I might wind up being blown away with it.

I just briefly stuck my head outside and while not as severe as last night, it is still quite windy so I doubt that I will be getting much accomplished outside this day.

Wind... I like the wind... When it is a breeze that cools on a hot day... But when I blows through your bones... Well that is a pain in the back... Literally. I had to retrieve so many papers from under bushes, etc because no matter how careful I was this morning, it seemed that the wind would blow harder in the instant the paper left my hand to drop on a stoop. I need a frisbee dog... Because surely I was playing frisbee by myself. So now my lower back aches worse than normal. I feel like I am pregnant again.. I am not. But that's the best way to equate the pain. Ibuprofen here I come.

Juise, the t-shirts are for an idea being tossed about for chicken stock. Kinda like a concert tee, only chicken stock..

we got propane today... I am turning up the heat... The wind coming thru the house... Makes the air less winter stagnant, but sure does chill the nose.

I am going to nap. Have a great day. Even if you have to be like a liar and smile and fake it.
