Thanks Opa! I feel better already. Now i am off to do my running...

Is that what they were? I was afraid to ask...

$5 a piece for the chicken ornements that CR makes. I want some, but he says it might be cheaper on the shipping if there was more than just me who wants them. I just want 5 of them, and am willing to get more for who ever wants and bring them to chicken stock.
I'll take 3 total....each color different....not picky.

A dumb question but how can you tell from candling, is it just movement or air space?

I candle them really quick and check for movement. There was none and the development I saw was that of day 13-15-ish rather then full term. :(
Oh well...we'll see what the brood pops out for me and go from there.

Robin and everyone else who is interested!
Here's the link to the spring fowl fest! I went last year (which was the 1st yr they put it on) and had a wonderful time! It's amazing to see all the different birds and meet all the wonderful people. It was very well run and there was opportunity to sell/buy/trade birds. If you're not doing anything that weekend I really recommend going! :) I'm excited to go and show my silkies this year!

Poison Ivy - Here is a young plant. They can grown quite large, and vine up into shrubs and trees. They look a lot like raspberry leaves, but are shiny instead of matte.

You also have to be careful with the roots. I got it planting a tree in an area where I knew ivy plants were, but the roots had spread out all over.... was a particularly unpleasant exposure. I've gotten it in my eyes and throat before..have to have major steroid shots... darn stuff will leave scars on you too!
All this ivy talk is making me itch!!

Anyone notice the mosquito's were out in full force yesterday! Buggers!

Good morning Robin.

Okay--so I'm late for the party! Caught the word Michigan as I was navigating through this relatively new format of BYC's. My girlfriend has a home just south of Manistee Michigan in Freesoil. I built a really nice coop last summer and we are stocking it with chicks for the first time in April. !5 layers and 10 meat birds. I tried to order breeds that fair well in colder climates. We have black giants and black rocks for meat and orpingtons, black sex links and golden laced wyandottes for egg layers. Hoping they do well. How are your birds fairing the winters? I am debating on insulating the coop. I have exterior treated wood but dont know if that will be sufficient with only a light. I've heard lights at night may disrupt their egg laying habits? I have developed a rain barrel/watering systen with nipples in pvc pipe for less maintenence. Can either be filled by mother nature or the garden hose. I am also working on an automatic feeder much like a deer spreader. Same principle. No one seems to have one. Keep ya posted. Take care, jack sprat!
Welcome jack. I hope you can keep up. Check out the link in RaZ's, Opa's and my siggy for info on the upcoming chickenstock. We would love to see you there.

*whispers* I've been making plans/arrangements for a place for Waffles my Belgian office Hare who wears a dark blue sport coat and carries a pocket watch.

I AM NOT CRAZY! Don't look at me like that.

Seriously though. There's a story behind all this. We're *hoping* to build me a new office outside the house this year. I told DH that I was going to get a hare for my office because I like to have a pet around when I'm working. He asked what kind of hare and I said "A Belgian Hare, of course! My favorite kind. I even have a source all lined up." and he immediately responded "So you'll name it Waffles?" Belgian Waffles.... LOL! That man...

So then the next morning he texts me about 10 am and asked how my day was, I texted back that it'd be better if I were in my new office with Waffles my Belgian Office Hare who wears a dark blue sport coat and carries a pocket watch. (a la Alice in Wonderland, because I LOVE it) and he texts back, "Then he could tell you the time." So I said, "Exactly!" to which he then responds, "It'd just be a Hare slow." Again...

Anywhooo... so I'm totally working on it. *Squeeee!*

,,, heard the sprig peepers this AM when I went out to open the poop door and lower the food, also have been hearing the woodcock's for a couple of weeks, I love tho hear them. took me several yrs after we moved up here to figure out what they were. I would ask everyone that came up the the house listen .......what do you think that is?? most were sure it was some kind of frog. I knew that wasn't it cause usually It was to cold yet for frogs to be out..... Have yet to see one as they only call in the early morning, and dusk, during the spring So if you hear an unusual squeak. listen, they fly straight up in the air then flutter down and you can hear a chirp of sorts shortly after the squeak.
