Mornin' ya'll.

I finally woke up this morning feeling almost human. Motivation level is still on the low side but I received an e-mail from the registrar's office that says I'll be allowed to attend commencement. So that perked me up a bit.

The ducklings ventured outside of the coop this morning for a little stroll around the run. Of course they ran back inside when I went out to check water and whatnot. Naturally the waterer was empty again so I filled 2 this morning and everyone got a nice drink of clean clear water. I'm sure it will be duck soup in 20 minutes. Since they are going outside, I filled up the duck pool.

My new chicks have been out in the garage coop since Sunday or Monday and doing fine from what I can tell, even though I probably broke the rules. None have died, I don't see any shivering and they are eating well each day. They are 4 or 5 weeks old now. I bought them around Feb. 28th. Four of them ventured outside last evening.

Someone mentioned dumping wood ash in the garden beds. Too much wood ash can alter the pH of the soil but a little is just fine. How much you can use depends on the soil you have. I suggest doing a soil test. You can get a test with instructions from your local extension office. It's well worth it IMO.

Thanks Taprock and Theron (I may take you up on it if I get all roosters or all hens) I may keep them after all, they're cute birds. What color do you think it is? Lavender? I didn't get these chicks on purpose... I only wanted the 3 silkies!

It is millie fleur coloring. It will look like this when it is older:

Yes, you can keep Muscovies. The reason you don't see them from many hatcheries is that the ducklings do not ship well. If you'd like I have some hens working on a nest -- as well as a few scovie eggs under a goose -- and you're welcome to any ducklings that hatch.

Oh that would be fantastic! THANK YOU!

Ha the mailing zones around here are weird. According to the Post Office I'm Metamora but live in Attica Township and I'm significantly closer to Attica than I am to Metamora.

I'm closer Kings Mill. What do you have down there? I've got an EE rooster that someone gave me, about 5 Rhode Isl Reds, 1 leghorn, 2 breed quality black javas, and a few other odds and ends.

I've hatched two batches of mutts in the still airs. I know have it full with some blue and blue /copper marans from 2 different farms. and then I got some, hopefuly all lavender Araucanas from South of Time farms.

Are you saying that the 8 week old climbed under the hen? Or one of the little ones? That is funny.
Yes the eight week old was under the mom with the 7 - three week olds, although not so much under as half of her was hanging out! I was amazed the hen actually let her. The other four were on the roost huddled up.

Nice hen Theron, here are some mille fleur roosters - one who could use a home!
