Well, I lost a family member last night. My little Cocker Spaniel died of old age. I knew it was coming just hard to accept is all.

I am soooooo sorry to hear about you doggie, I lost my 12 years Cattle Dog he was the best like you I knew it was coming but still hard to take.

So far so good on the d'uccle. I'm surprised. I think now that we are past the shock stage it's going to be okay. I tried putting it by itself if a small brooder and it freaked OUT, running all over and peeping so loud. I put it back with his "flock" and it was quiet and started eating/drinking and snuggling with the others. There has been no issues with them picking on it but that's probably b/c they can't see the wound under it's wing.

that everything continues to go so well. If all is well in the morning I'll breath a little easier.

Haven't read yet but I just wanted to post that I'm an idiot. My dad was here this morning and we were playing with the chicks in the office brooder. Well we got to talking and I forgot to close the lid. A little bit later we hear god awful squawking and here comes our cat racing out with one of the baby d'uccles!

It looks like he got it a little by the eye and under one wing. I don't expect it to live just due to shock alone. But it's wrapped in a warm towel on my lap. I'm so mad at myself.

I tell you, it is always a D'uccle. That breed is just a hair slower than everyone else. I had a bantam survive a cat attack once. Puncture wound near the eye. Ask your vet if you can have some BAYTRIL and then since you are giving it to a chick, just give it a couple drops of BAYTRIL in its mouth twice a day. You can pull it through but you will need this antibiotic because of the cat saliva bacteria. A topical antibiotic won't be enough. If you have spent some money at a vet for your dogs and cats, they should be able to let you buys some antibiotic for a chick also from them. Ask them!
