You've all got me thinking. Since I will have two coops ready, and no adult chickens yet, could I also use those areas as Brooders this time? After this first initial start up, I can't imagine ever having more than a couple dozen chicks at a time again.

I also think I remember someone posting hat thy were downsizing and would have some waterers and such available... Downsizing an upsizing would make a good pair!

And how important do you think the heat lamps will be during a Michigan August?

Yes, you can use your coops as your brooders. When I was raising a lot I had a separate coop just for brooding.

My body says its
80%..

My body agrees with your body. Maybe Randy's hygrometer is broken, because surely we're not.

Guineas and chickens have been know to cross but it is pretty uncommon. The result of a normal chicken and guinea cross is pretty bizarre looking. I would recommend anyone with small children not try crossing Uggos with guineas as the resulting offspring might cause nightmares of monumental proportions. I wouldn't risk it, your children might even grow up to be fowl fondlers.

Anybody want a cranky Miniature Schnauzer? Poor thing hates her new brother with a passion.

what does one look like??
Humidity is low here again today but we will see what afternoon brings. You are welcome to visit here this afternoon at out pre-CS warm up Uggos swap. Maybe throw that cart in your truck???
Was that a dig?
Had I seen an Uggo before, I never would have gotten into chickens and my latent groping predilection never would have surfaced.
It's also a good idea to have a couple of extras on hand just for sanitation purposes. Swap a clean one for one that gets dirty and you can't clean it right away.
you can make some feeders and waterers ,,plant saucers milk jugs or containers in shallow pans put small or lg. holes in containers depending if you are dispensing water or food

got a pool, come on over

any one want lambs ear or fever few, pink poppy(annual from seed) old fashioned daisy ( spreads WELL from seed) anise hyssop( in the mint fam. but does not root out like mint, spreads by seed), might divide stella d'or Yellow lilly's old fashioned black eyed susan,
may be able to pot up some california poppy and climbing bleeding heart

Heh, heh, heh, That's what they all say.

I think Raz has gone off the deep end. Until I put my a/c on the inside of my house read 63% humidity. Now it's down to 53%. It's already 88 degrees outside and climbing, and it's steamy out there. Must be really hot down state?

DH and I are going to head out to Jewell Lake in Barton City this evening for another try at fishing. We tried Mud Lake aka Sanborn Lake in BC last night and only caught lily pads. JL is much more clear of vegetation and deeper.

Chick question. I've just cleaned 6 pasty butts today on my newest arrivals. Same brooder as last time, same feed, light set up, different breeds. Any idea why? Advice? Only had 2 last time. And I saw a 7th that might need it later.

Hmm, my weather station says it is
77.0 and 23% in the coop,
81.3 and 36% in the house,
84.2 and 30% outside.

But it looks like I am outnumbered here...

I decided to let the bunny go, because he was old enough to take care of himself. The reason I kept him in the first place was because he had a bite wound, and cat bites get infected easily. It was not bad so I washed it and applied antibiotics and let him go in a brushy, far away area where hopefully the cats wont find him.He is wet because he ran through his water.

As I wrote that, the cats caught another bunny.

That bunny is adorable.

And my DH thought I was kidding when I wanted to name the farm "E _I_ E_ I_ Whoa!"
That's an awesome farm name. Should be my farm name according to DH. Haha

Some times a day can seem a little brighter when some little thing happens. For me it was sitting here drinking coffee and watching a wild turkey hen bring her two or three day old poults out to feed in the clover I have planted behind the house.

I have Marans and I'm coming to CS
How old will they be and what are you asking for hens...assuming you know they are hens.

I'm loving the warm weather, however our humidity hasn't been that high. To be able to be outside at 6:30 and not have to have on an extra layer to stay warm is wonderful! Another busy day ahead.

My crazy two month olds have a coop below their house so it is shaded most of the day. The goofy things go down in the run early in the day and in the evening but in the hottest part of the day I find them in the coop just panting. They won't stay in the run where there is a really nice breeze. The poor dumb things don't make any sense. Yesterday all the grown chickens took to the woods and didn't reappear until it cooled off in the evening. Enjoy your day!
mine all hang out in the run cause of the big maple tree right in the middle, the run is always ope so they can free rang but when the sun comes up they are either under the coo,the tree or in the bushes next to the run

BYFM,,,, I have hung baggies of water & pennys all over my house and run figured what the hey, doesn't cost any thing to try it. IT WORKS

crazy but it works. put 3 fresh fly strips inside the coop, a zip lock in the run over the feeder, flies all gone, got 2 hanging under the 3 season porch and it should bee very nice sitting down their watching the grand kids in the pool today. I even think it is scarring off some of the carpenter bee's that seem to like the treated wood the 3 season is made of

any one have any blue orpington chicks coming to CS?
You would never know I have chickens outside(aside from the coops) because as soon as I let mine out they run for the willow bush.

I know a Marian with tats. Should I ask for a picture?
