Good morning everyone and Happy Mothers Day to fellow moms everywhere!

I've been MIA for a bit, popping in here and there. Been busy with getting the kids ready for 4H. The chickens have become HUGE, the ducks are even bigger! The kids have their goats, we went to the weigh in for County yesterday and then Billy got his babies tagged in for state. Becky still have her bantys living in our dining room. She has to work on getting a little mini coop built for them.

We had taken in our niece for about a month. She is 19 and messed up. She has a drug problem and boy problem. We put her in a rehab center (we paid for the treatment in advance) - she had 3 days left. She had court on Wednesday - she stayed out all Tuesday night, showed up at 5:30 Wednesday morning and expected things to be all hunky dory. We lectured her and scolded her for hours, took her 3 hours up north to her hearing and she wanted to come back. We brought her back - she had rehab on Thursday, she surprised us by saying she decided to go to an AA meeting, her therapists vouched for the girl she was going with. The only thing is, our "girl" lied and had no intentions of going to AA - she was meeting this boy she met on Myyearbook. We discovered all this the evening of my surgery. Good thing it was out patient, otherwise who knows what would have happened as she had taken my 14 yr old daughter for a "walk" with her. This ungrateful little snot couldn't even give me a day to recover! I had the 4 screws removed from my foot and was in major pain. We told her to go - she stayed that night but left yesterday. Before she left, she left us with a very nice message in our bath tub. She decided to shave and left it all in the tub for us. Real nice, real mature.

I have learned a very valuable lesson - Billy and Becky are two amazing wonderful kids and I will not allow anyone in my home that has the problems that this girl did. I won't jeopardize Billy and Becky's happiness and health for someone. It will be a long time before I can help or trust someone again.

what does the calcium bag say exactly? is it just 'calcium'? does it have a 'scientific' name on the ingredients?

this is what i do, so not the only way, just my way...
twice a week i sprinkle a little oyster shell on the food. just a small handful. just 'feel' your way.

when chickens are low in calcium, it does not technically produce soft shells etc. that is actually a stress response. when the blood levels of calcium drop, they will just stop laying. (info from Backyard Poultry magazine)

Patti...Happy M-Day to you.

your family is your first ministry (job in life) and you are a good mother. you've tried to help, but sometimes the person who needs help isn't able to receive it yet. they have to be so sick of something that they want to be different.

prayers being said for your family and for this young girl who doesn't value herself and therefore cannot value others.

and i speak blessing over you and yours. God give you all the ability to move on from this without scarring to your children and for your heart to be ready to trust with wisdom and discernment.

Good morning MJ! Hubby threw the bag away immediately after putting it in a 5 gal bucket for me. I'll have to see if he has it outside in the pole barn garbage. All I know for sure is that he gets it from Stack Farm. I'll try to check the bag before I give it to the chicks though.

Have an awesome day today! I sure hope the sun comes out and it warms up

I was out early this morning and caught up two of the Welsummers hens and placed them in with the rainbow flock. Talk about an uphappy rooster. He wanted to try and stop me but I'm sure he knew better than to try. So after a little short run at me he just stood in a corner making protest noises.

Tuesday afternoon I plan to put the bantams in the former breeding coop.
I'm not sure if the bantams will fly up to get in the coop so I may have to build a ramp or ladder for them to use.

Today I hope to finish rebuilding the chicken tractor so that I can use it for the younger bantams. The spangled Hamburgs are probably large enough to go in it now although I will wait until we start getting more consistantly warm nights. The Vorwerks are 4 weeks behing them so it will be awhile before they get outside.

Today sure looks like the kind of beautiful day to celebrate Mothers. The sun is bright and birds are singing and God has given us another day to enjoy being alive.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Mother's Day to all the special Moms.

Sam, those banties won't have any trouble flying up into the coop...they actually love to hop/jump/fly around exploring.
Please tell Granny and Hope "Happy Mother's Day" from me...and you treat those ladies extra, extra special today!

The sun is out, but so is the chilly wind!

My layer flock sure didn't care this morning...when I opened the door to the coop, they came running out and went straight to the pasture to forage.

Every day they seem to go a little farther on their adventures.

Happy Mothers Day!

I got the best gift ever! At 5am I heard a horrible noise, flew out of bed, ran outside and the noise was so scary I ran back in for Big Russ.

He loaded the shot gun and we grabbed a flashlight to see what it was. I was sure something was eating my meaty chickens. It was 2 raccoons in the pine tree (doing the nasty). With the flashlight I found ones glowing eyes and BLAMO! Big Russ got him. The other one wasn't so easy to find, we waited for daylight and BLAMO! He got the other one! That is a great Mothers day. I am not sharing my chickens with a coon. I will post pics later. Hope everyone has a great day!

Oh yeah and we buthered the rooster, he will be cooked tomorrow.

yum! that sounds good!

opa, you are right! a beautiful day, chilly like chickflick said, but beautiful.

i'll have to get a pic of the Mom's day gift Rick got me. there is an old church being demoed not far from us. Rick stopped and bought one of the old Trinity windows! it is for the shed we are being given. he's making it into a church/chapel looking building.

and he made a card with all my kids pics and of the ducks etc. too funny!

the kids made cards and bought me a copy of my fave movie "Enchanted April". it was not available on DVD until just this past week. Rick reserved it about 2 months ago. James also made me a 'broach' from all sorts of trinkets at school.

what a bunch of nice presents, but the true gift is that they are my family. Shelley is right, make those moms feel extra special, but mom's, make your kids feel extra special because their spirits are dependent on us, and we can choose to build it or break it. once it's broken, repairing it isn't easy.
