Good evening everyone. I just got done settling in all the new chickies from MJ. Came home with 6 EE chicks. They are huge! They are fuzzy babies and just as big as the little Seramas we got at chicken stock. I already named one, Cruella DeVille. She keeps pecking at the red comb of Spunky the Serama roo. Thank you so much MJ. The boys are gonna think a while on the names for the chicks. I think they are to tired to pick good ones tonight. Thank you for being so nice and letting us talk your ears off even though you have been ill. By the way your kids have wonderful phone manners. I keep forgetting to tell you that.

I do love ours we have them from a few weeks to 2+yrs and they never get boring with there personalities.

Not sure if this may be the reason but turkeys don't do very well on any kind of food that is medicated. Check the food you are feeding them.
I know you can buy medicated turkey feed which I have always been told not to give them.
check the others as what the medicated food does is messes with there system and they will eat but will lose weight. Pick them up to make sure they are gaining and not feeling skinny in the chest area.
I feed ours non-medicated turkey feed and cracked corn.
They also eat all our left over stuff too.

Good morning all. Today looks a little on the damp side. I need to get this coffee down and go check on the birds. I put the one eyed welsummer back into the laying flock. She seems to be doing pretty good.

Good morning.

My husband should be home from work soon. Once the coffee is in my system it will be time for the house cleaning. My poor chickens have been locked into their run for 2 days now. I will have to give them lots of extra time outside today to free range.

Opa how much of a size difference is there in the bantam and standard? They just seem so small anyway. They are beautiful birds I love mind! And does John Blehn have standard size? He isn't that far from me

what a Poopy day, Chucks going to try to go golfing, but with the rain i dont think so.

woke up late to go to church,

so i'm setting on the porch, ready BYC.

my girls want to get a Nigerien Mini goats,

not sure, they only get like 26 inch high and about 65 lbs.
at first i was like i dont know about this

then i'm thinking, Goats milk

make some goat cheese and have fresh milk, then i read you have to breed them to get milk, so now I'm not sure.

Any one out there have goats?

Laura, We have some Nigerian's, but just as pets. We have bred them in the past, but didn't milk them, though I hear they are awesome milkers!! I know they are great pets, small, easier to contain than most goats, so sweet!! We love ours!!

Anyone have an extra Belgian Quail d'Anvers rooster? I am looking for one.

We got back last night from Holly, the ren fest was great. We did not get rained on but it was cool.
When we got home i found out that one of my little welsummer chicks started acting sick around 8 pm last night. We got home at 10 pm. It is having trouble walking. I separated it from the other 2 and am working with it. I have never ever lost a baby. The other 2 seem fine.

Good afternoon all. We actually just rolled out of bed! Went to Lapeer Days last night with some friends and saw Jackyl in concert. Needless to say we didn't get home until welllll after 1am so we were tiiiiired. As soon as I got up I went out to check on my feathered friends. Oh GAWD! I found my newest baby Blue Slate dead!!!!! No apparent injuries but... no green poo anywhere. Reading back a few posts someone mentioned medicated feed. We buy our grower directly from a farmer over here, same one MJ uses and lots of others. We sometimes buy Layer feed from Dumors at TSC. I've always used that and am almost positive it's not medicated. So I still have to wonder what's wrong. I'm so scared I'm going to lose all my precious turkeys. Everyone appears to be fine, chasing each other, eating treats, acting normal.

I have a RP young turkey in there that I'm going to take out today and put with Cotton, our newest Silkie that I haven't yet incorporated out into the flock. He/She lost her buddy with the Blue Slate dying so he/she will be pretty lonely I'm sure. I swear if I lose everyone I'm going to be torn up!!!!!!

and the younger one is doing better today.

I'm wondering if the warm muggy days and colder nights have been messing with their body temp.

I have mixed up some brown sugar water(this is what Porter's recommends) to help give it a little boost.

Another helpful hint is if you need to get the body temp up put warm water in a zip-lock baggie and lay the bird in a towel on it.
It will bring the birds temp back quicker then just putting it under the light.
