I will propose Oct. 1 as a "rain date" for the BYC Michigan Sushi Extravaganza.

Since I am not a "crowd person" anyway, I would happily meet a chicken-lover or two or five (!) for dinner. It's just nice to chat with people who love this hobby. I went to a BBQ last night, answered the requisite questions about how I earn my living and was truly grateful to settle into a poultry oriented conversation with my neighbor's friend. He regaled me with a story from his youth - the story of his mother's killer minorca. Would I rather talk about stocks? I think not!

Ooopsy I am sooo sorry!!!

Well hope everyone got their projects done today. I know I didn't. The fence at least got measured and corner posts put in and the sheep got sheered. The out come there was unreal!!

We are the proud owners of 3 skinny sheep.

They are so naked right now and man are they mad at us.

I have never heard them talk to much since we got them. We are also going to have lambs sooner than we thought. The guy that sheered them said that one of them will be in about 1 to 2 weeks and the other in 2 to 3 weeks!!

Hopefully tomorrow we can get the birthing pen built.

Anyone know anything about the Whittemore Bird and Small Animal Swap in Whittemore (kinda near Tawas) coming up on the 12th? It's about 30 min. from my house and I planned on checking it out. Anyone else?

Isa, I am looking forward to finally meeting you also. I think it's funny that you and my son know each other already.

How cool about the babies coming.

I might have to come out there and see them after they are born.
We had 12 people here yesterday, well 13 if you count the baby but I didn't have to feed him. We were celebrating my oldest son's birthday.

It was great but man it wore me out.

Elliott has had the welsummer cottage to himself for 4 weeks or so and I thought he would be happy for some company. I don't think he was too impressed though.

I bet he thought he had his very own man cave.

I am glad you got your babies out there. I can't wait to see your set up.

My poor goat isn't impressed with his new sleeping arrangements thats for sure. I can hear him all the way in the house. We put the other weather(sheep) in his pen to sleep with him for now.

So much for his man cave.

Nothing fancy here, just a lot of recycling.
Your poor goat probably feels like he has been replaced. Maybe he will decide that he likes the company.
Man cave ...

Perhaps she torn her oviduct trying to pass an egg??
Usually my egg bound/internal layers take one to four weeks to die. She could of had this problem a little longer than you realize. The limp may have been your only clue something was going wrong. When the hens left leg is not working right then it could be a sign she is an internal layer. All of mine that have died end up with some problem with the left leg, from not being able to use it at all to just a limp. I believe it is the swelling and/or infection that is damaging the nerves.
Sorry about the loss of your hen
