Morning All,
It is nice out this morning isn't it? Not so windy and cold. The critters are enjoying it thats for sure!

Still no Miss Jayne huh? Maybe it wasn't her cord, maybe she is just baking up a storm and needed a break from all of us!

I couldn't believe how "warm" it was when I went out to feed this morning! NEVER thought that temps in the high 20s would get me so excited!

No Miss_Jayne yet. It may be next week before she returns full time to us. Me and my DS are going over tomorrow to spend most of the day with her and her kids...can't wait. She's baking goodies today for the kids to have tomorrow, while she and I share some adult time. She's cooking up some homemade spinach lasagna today, too. Her leghorn eggs from MSU are due to hatch tomorrow, so we're having a hatching party. Plus, I'm picking up 3 EE pullets from her.

Well, gotta go for now. I've got a guy coming at 11 to pick up 8 Delaware cockerels. What a relief to get rid of those guys! Wish spring were here...I'd just keep them a little longer and butcher them myself. But they're just growing way too fast. At least they'll benefit someone else's family.

Have a good day everyone!

Morning! What a nice morning it was; I actually had to remove my hat in the barn while doing chores, as I started to SWEAT!

Hey, anyone interested in a nice Blue Jersey Giant cockerel?

COME ON - how could you say "no" to THIS face?

Oh, Marli - my Isa Browns are extremely friendly, too. Always very curious, and the first ones to greet me at the gate! The name "Isa Brown" is just what Townline (and apparently the other hatchery) have named them; they're actually just a brown/red sex link. Other hatcheries have the same birds, but each calls them their own name such as cinnamon queen, red/brown sex link, red layers, etc. I've got one that has laid something like 25-30 days in a ROW! Whoda thunk it? BUT...beware, as Isas, as well as other production-type breeds, often have laying issues such as becoming egg bound or internal laying. I "iherited" mine, and I have high hopes I won't ever have issues with them, because they sure do lay well!

So you two are literally neighbors?

Wynette, they are cute.....but the Mrs. is/was firm in her "No Roosters" stance....for the time being. I am getting one from Vicki 2x2 that comes in a 2 pullets/1 cockrel mix.....I told her that was the deal, and she said "OKAY, but just one."

Great, now I gotta worry about 'eggbound' chickens.....

Yep- we are neighbors. There is a house between us where our problem neighbor lives. I could get a long rant going about him but he is just not worth it.
If you get eggs that are rough then that is an episode of egg binding that has resolved itself.

Good morning all!

I got an email for a workshop at MSU on Feb. 21 for poultry. We went last year and it was great. I am not sure how to get it on the site. If you are interested let me know. It is for 4-Her's so spread the word. Send me an email and I can forward it to you.

Had the window in the kitchen open this morning while I made breakfast. Nice to have some warm weather!

Rachel got a first egg from her 3 black austroloups. They are going to the fair this year as production hens under 1 year.

Off to continue on our day....busy one at that. Pajama day at Jack's preschool today.

I just got in from giving my coop a complete cleaning, I am almost on the verge of going back to work (my real job) but I'll wait and see what next week is gonna be like, hopefully as nice as today.

You know the old saying about when someone posts a picture of their dog....everyone does. Since we are doing chickens instead of dogs, here is some of mine. 4 Isa's 1 BO and 1 EE, the rest must be hiding.
