Chocolate Cake- a newspaper clipping in Great Grandma's recipe box
1 1/2 cup sifted flour
3T. cocoa
1t. soda
1 cup sugar
1/2t. salt
5T. cooking oil
1 T. vinegar
1t. vanilla
1 cup cold water
Put sifted flour back in the sifter and add to it the cocoa, soda, sugar, and salt and sift in a bowl. Now make 3 holes in the dry mixture. Into one hole pour the oil, another the vanilla, and the last hole the vinegar. Pour the cold water over it all.
It will feel like you are making mud pies but beat with a spoon until smooth and you cannot see the flour.
Put in a greased 8x8 pan.
Bake at 350* for 30 minutes.
Top with favorite frosting.
I use a peanut butter frosting...some peanut butter, butter, vanilla, powdered sugar and milk. Don't know amounts...I dump and go!
Enjoy!
