...the honest answer for ducks...they are cake work. no joke. if they could open the feed bin and wash their pools, it would be a done deal. the smell factor is only high if the area is too small. (the poop is wet so the smell lasts longer.)

you do NOT need pools for ducks. they do NOT need water to mate or reproduce. even a little oil pan is big enough for them to wash in. they actually like a spray mist to bathe in and play in.

About two weeks ago some of mine went right into the lions den.....aka Kodiak's pen.........He had one in his grips, but wasn't sure what to do with it. He pulled out feathers and was licking it. There was just a small amount of blood. Thankfully she is just fine. When I looked her over, I couldn't even see much. Anyways, just sorry for your girl! Hugs to you.

Welcome Sarah! This is a great place, glad you found us! 4-H is awesome, I love it, I grew up in 4-H, my kids are in 4-H and I am a leader. I don't have any of the breeds you are looking for but do have welsummers, another dark egg layer, if you don't find the others.

Hope you can join us at Chickenstock!

Hello Everyone!

I have 2 kids with chicken pox. Mild case and the doctor didn't look at it, just described it over the phone.
And yes I know they cannot get it from the chickens:lol:

So the schedule is erased and hopefully the other 3 get it soon. Too much to do and not enough time already!

Off to get something accomplished. Raining lightly here, glad we didn't cut hay yesterday.

NO, My daughter who is now 15 had chicken pox 5 times. We are hoping the last time she had them was enough. That vaccine made things worse in my opinion.

My family wasn't sure if I had chicken pox when I was little, ( long story)so when my little brother, and some of his friends got chicken pox they thought after a month I'd be ok.
I had chicken pox at 16/17 years old, and almost died from them. I had to spend almost a month in the hospital. I am really hoping that doesn't happen to my daughter, because at that age they aren't fun.

I was curious about this, because it was a requirement for my son, so I did it. Another lil boy I know got it, and wasn't the same since. He's been diagnosed as autistic so some of these vaccines do scare me

My best friend back in RI has two autistic sons. The state was trying to force her to put both her sons in a long term care hospital. She refused to do it. It became a long battle with the state, but she went to law school, got her degree, passed the bar, and is now fighting the state. She also helps other parents who live in other states who have similar issues as hers.

The reason I brought that up is because she doesn't necessarily believe vaccines are always the cause of autism. She feels it's more a combination of things.

As for the chicken pox vaccine, I just don't think it works for everyone. In my own daughters case it sure didn't, and I know of other kids who the vaccine didn't really seem all that effective. Just keep an eye on your little guy. He'll probably be fine, but just be aware in case he's around chicken pox. You'll at least know what to look for.
