Good morning all. I trust everyone had a wonderful xmas. We decided years ago that xmas should be just for the kids so we quit buying presents for each other. Sure makes it alot easier; I only have to worry about something for my granddaughter. Now my only problem at xmas time is not overeating.

Hi, Michiganders.

I would like to introduce myself to the chicken world. We are in Livonia, and are waiting to order our first peeps - as soon as My Pet Chicken starts taking orders for spring!

I have arranged to buy feed from CVK Farms in Imlay City. I wondered if I can get some feedback from anyone who gets their feed from them? I want to give them an all-natural feed, and that was a farm I found on LocalHarvest.com. They said it was a complete feed - they make grower and layer, and the only thing I would need to add is grit.

Also, what are the best feed stores in the area? I still need to buy all my feeders, waterers, grit, bedding, etc. Do you know where I can find food grade DE?

We are a family of four, my DH and I, and 5-year-old twin girls. I look forward to getting to know everybody!

new fowl friends!

We had a great Christmas. Best part was the 3 year old going around the house singing "happy birthday Jesus"

HBR- Beautiful granddaughter! As everyone else said, the best Christmas gift there is

Hope everyone has a great day! I am hoping to get my 5 mile run in today. I slept in today. This cold is making it hard to exersice when I cannot breathe through my nose

Wow, lots of new faces here! Welcome to lighthawk, sweet chicks, chasselchic, Antuulien and AngieB.

Sounds like all had a great holiday. We did but are worn out. DH is snoring away on the couch right now. I went to my daughter in laws mom's house the other day and saw her chickens and her species confused male Cayuga duck. He is beautiful! She has a very nice set up. I told her about this site and I hope she will join us. I also invited her to go along with us to the next Chickenstock.

Welcome all of you new folks. Be sure to check out the link in my signature line. Chickenstock last year was great and this year will be even better. I will be posting additional info as it becomes available. Livingston Feed and Seed in Howell carries DE.

Hey all! Wow... has it been a long time or what??? I got caught up with school and the fair and everything else after Chickenstock... crazy! Anyway, the main thing I want to tell ya'll about concerns the two Cochin Bantams I recieved at chickenstock.

I bought a beautiful young white boy and a charming, though skittish, 2-yr-old splash hen. I was told that the hen had never seen a roo in her life and, of course, she wanted nothing to do with the white roo and even tried to attack him through their cage divider! He didn't seem to mind, however, and was quite persistent nonetheless. Long story short, a couple of months found them living together and now I have a beautiful, very tame, inside-only, black bantam cochin chick! Unfortunately, while this egg was still in the incubator as a test, an animal killed the young roo early in the evening before he turned in for the night. I am sure that he died protecting his splash hen.

I know there is much more to tell, but this will have to suffice for now! I'm back!!!

Hi Angie,

You must be very close to me if you are going to Imlay City for chicken feed. I can pm you a farm in Lapeer that is much cheaper to get natural chicken feed from then anywhere else Im found.

WELCOME to all the new people here!!!!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.
